Morabito posted a $100,000 Surety bond and was released to appear at Stamford Superior

On that December 16, 2009 at approximately 12:02 A.M., members of the Uniformed Services
Division responded to the Greenwich Lobster House restaurant at #2 S. Water Street,
Greenwich, CT. When officers arrived, they found a 31 year old male victim with serious
head injuries sitting in the parking lot.

The victim reported he had been assaulted and robbed of his cellular telephone by two
unknown males.

Members of the Criminal Investigations Division were able to identify witnesses who were
previously unknown to the victim. With the assistance of surrounding police departments,
suspects were identified and interviewed, and evidence was gathered.

The investigation revealed that the victim was speaking with a female known to Ashford in
the parking lot of the restaurant. When Ashford and Morabito appeared at that location, the
attack started almost immediately, with the victim being pushed to the ground, held down,
and beaten in the head and face with a metal flashlight. During the attack, the victim's
cellular telephone was stolen and has not been recovered.

A passerby who observed the attack overheard Ashford yelling that he was going to kill the
victim. Ashford and Morabito fled the area, along with the female.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Morabito had disposed of a piece of
the flashlight used in the attack.

The Greenwich Police Department would like to extend it's thanks to the Port Chester, NY
Police Department and the City of Rye, NY Police Department for their assistance which
provided essential information in locating witnesses to this incident.

12/24/09 PRESS RELEASE: Peter Schiff Says Senate Votes Are "Nightmare Before Christmas"

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release Contact: John Hrabe
December 24, 2009 (203) 450-8818

Peter Schiff: Senate Votes Are “Nightmare Before Christmas”

(Milford, CT) – Peter Schiff, Connecticut’s principled Republican candidate for US Senate, issued the following statement on the Senate’s passage of a trillion dollar health care bill and a new multi-trillion dollar federal debt ceiling.

“Thanks to the Senate’s early morning votes on health care and the national debt, Christmas Eve 2009 will be remembered as the ‘Nightmare Before Christmas.’ Both votes continue Washington’s troubling pattern of reckless spending and represent an overbearing intrusion into our private lives.”

“It’s no coincidence that the Senate waited until Christmas Eve, when most Americans are busy preparing for the holiday, to increase the national debt to a new record of $12.4 trillion. The Senate’s actions will burden our children and grandchildren with an insurmountable burden of debt—more than $40,000 for every man, woman and child in the country. Most Connecticut families are making cutbacks during this recession, and Washington needs to match their sacrifice.”

“On health care, the Senate bill represents a frightening intrusion into our private lives. This bill forces Americans to choose between an expensive new insurance premium and a costly government fine. The government can’t handle the problems currently in front of them. We can’t trust Washington with new expanded powers over our medical decisions.”

“Connecticut Republicans don’t want another Chris Dodd dressed up in Republican clothing. We need a leader in Washington who will oppose Obama-care. We need a Senator who will fight for a real debt ceiling that Congress can’t continually raise. ”

In 2006, businessman Peter Schiff warned of a coming financial crisis. Now, Peter sees the same problems repeating themselves in Washington. As Connecticut’s Senator, he will stop Washington’s spending binges that destroy jobs and lead to higher taxes. Born in New Haven, Peter lives in Fairfield County, where he raises his seven year old son.

12/23/09 The Himes Times: Afghanistan

December 23, 2009

Jim has lunch with troops

Friends,

I am just hours back from several days visiting our troops and civilian operations in Afghanistan. The more I learn about Afghanistan, the more complicated the challenge seems. The nation is desperately poor, and reeling from decades of brutal warfare. It is literally inconceivable that anyone should experience the Soviets, the Taliban and utter chaos in less than a generation. The questions are daunting. What does democracy mean in a country of 70% illiteracy? Does prosperity have a chance in a place with six million landmines and practically no safe roads? What is our long-term strategic interest in a geography that ranges from inhospitable to inaccessible, separating the dangers of Iran and Pakistan?

I know one thing. The finest, most idealistic and capable people I have ever met are thousands of miles from home right now, working in unspeakable conditions on the answers to those questions. Yes, it was fascinating to meet with General Stanley McChrystal, with President Hamid Karzai and with the CIA station chief in Kabul. But, what will stick with me are the dozens of Americans I met who are risking everything trying to improve the lives of strangers:

The Ranger colonel from West Virginia building a secure government center for the district governor and his council a few miles outside of Kandahar.

The USAID people opening roads, restoring cell phone service and figuring out how to help farmers get pomegranates to market.

The foreign service officer working to meld civil and Islamic law and tribal customs in a courthouse in the Arghandab valley.

Jim meeting with Gen. McChrystal and senior embassy staff

These, and the other American and NATO people we met were not naive. They understand the need to partner with, rather than lead, the Afghans. They sense the precariousness of their efforts, and the fact that the time they have and the resources they need will be increasingly limited. And they know that the best of intentions are no guarantee of success. North of Kandahar, I asked the young turret gunner in our armored vehicle if he would re-enlist when his tour was done. "Yes, sir", he said, "I work with best guys in the world, and every day we're helping a little in this world of hurt."

As we approach the holidays, whatever you think of the war in Afghanistan, I hope you'll join me in awe and pride that our nation can field such people. Tens of thousands of them, the best that we have, will wake up this week in dust and danger, in a perilous land thousands of miles from home and family. We owe them an unpayable debt of gratitude. I hope you will join me this week in praying for their success and safety.

Best,

Jim

12/22/09 Reader Submitted Comments: The health care debacle

Hi, friends. I have sent the following to Greenwich Rondup, my local newspapers and to Connecticut’s senators and Greenwich’s Representative. I hope that you will consider copying and pasting…and sending it on. Sitting around the table and complaining suddenly seems insufficient. If we don’t make our voices heard now we may well deserve the ice floe onto which we will be put.

Judy Crystal

As the story goes, there was a congressman of whom it was said, “he was an honest politician; when he was bought, he stayed bought.” Of the brave and honorable men and women currently serving in the Senate and House this is probably the best that can be said.

Not one of them, Republican or Democrat, has attempted to deal with the real issues of the health care debacle. There has been no discussion of the need for tort reform (kudos to the effectiveness of the American Association of Trial Lawyers). There has been no discussion of the patent unfairness of the insurance industry’s exclusion from our country’s antitrust laws (bravos to the effectiveness of the insurance lobby and its vocal advocate, Joseph Lieberman).

Not one Representative, not one Senator, and certainly not our President, has mentioned the utter hypocrisy of deciding the future of health care in America while maintaining the extraordinary (and perpetual) coverage granted not only to themselves but to their families.

The only “transparency” the majority party has allowed, is the transparent bribery being used. We no longer have to question the “price” of a member of Congress: in the South it is three hundred million dollars, in the Midwest it’s whatever Medicaid costs will be – forever, the Northeast comes out on the short end with only one hundred million for Connecticut. In the struggle for a “victory” it seems that the majority party will do anything to win. The public be damned.

It may be too late to stop the present insanity. Votes bought will probably stay bought. Arms twisted will remain that way. If George Washington and Thomas Jefferson aren’t turning over in their graves – rest assured that Harry Truman is.

12/21/09 Linda takes the lead

Linda McMahon For Senate

Dear Greenwich Roundup,

We are pleased to share exciting news. Linda McMahon for Senate 2010 today is releasing the results of an internal poll we conducted last week showing remarkable momentum for Linda, even as the numbers paint a dire picture politically for former frontrunner Rob Simmons.

Linda now leads Rob in a head-to-head matchup, 37%-35%, and she holds at least 20-point leads in each of the all-important 3rd, 4th and 5th Congressional Districts.

We're deeply encouraged by the growing support Linda is receiving across this state. Since the day she announced three-and-a-half months ago, she has been focused on meeting with as many voters as possible and giving them the opportunity to decide for themselves whether they trust her to go to Washington to help change this country's direction, put the economy back on track and get people back to work. After more than 170 meetings and events, it's becoming clear that people are ready for a different kind of Senator.

Rob Simmons has yet to articulate a compelling argument for why voters should choose government experience over real-world business experience, and his failure to do this has cost him the lead in this race, despite his non-stop negative campaign. People have lost faith in career politicians like Chris Dodd and Rob Simmons, and they want outsiders with real-world experience -- that is why Linda has captured the momentum and the lead in this race.

The survey, which was conducted by Linda McMahon for Senate 2010 pollster Hans Kaiser of Moore Information, was conducted December 15-16, 2009 among 400 likely Republican voters in Connecticut. Moore Information is a nationally recognized, highly respected firm whose broad client list includes government, corporate and political campaigns. Moore Information's political client list includes, among many others, U.S. Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, as well as the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).

Connecticut families are looking for solutions to put our country back on track. We need to help small businesses start hiring again and put in place policies that will reduce our national debt. Linda is the only candidate in this race who understands how to balance a budget and put people back to work because she's actually done it. It is now becoming increasingly clear that voters across this state are coming to the same conclusion.

Thank you for all you have done to support Linda. Have a great holiday season and a happy new year.

12/19/09 Reader Submitted Comments: Rep. Himes... Your Time Is Up.

Standing in Hartford alongside members of our state government I was moved while listening to people speak of the sacrifices our men and women serving abroad are making, especially at this time of year. Unfortunately, reality intruded when someone showed me a letter that Congressman Himes recently sent out. It was then that I realized that for once I really did understand the saying; "the silence is deafening."

As members of both parties stood together our Congressman was one of the few people of prominence to ignore the request to stand together for our brave soldiers. When I read his email I was shocked at the callous way he spoke of taking a trip to Afghanistan after he rolled up his sleeves to get back to work on financial regulation. He spoke of the wonders of being with old friends and that his family is growing up so fast. At the same time, Washington is making the decision to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan. That's in addition to the hundreds of thousands that are already there that haven't had the privilege of spending the holiday safe at home with family and friends

While the Congressman was relaxing members of both parties were working right here in CT to bring some assistance to those that truly serve. Most importantly, while the Congressman was eating his turkey, those soldiers were risking their lives while waiting for their government to decide if they would get the help they needed to get the job done.

How much rolling up of the sleeves will Congressman Himes be doing on financial regulation while he is in Afghanistan under the protection of those he works so hard to ignore? I can only hope the Congressman decides to break his silence and explain to those risking their lives why it took so long to decide? Or why he chose not to stand with us and support them in Hartford or anywhere else. Perhaps as a member of the homeland security committee he can explain why they are risking their lives to pull terrorists out of caves so that we can ship them to NY for trial as if they were common criminals. Somehow, I doubt he will do any of those things. My money is on a trite tweet and nice photo of the Congressman eating an MRE and comparing it to M&M's from Air Force One.

The really sad part was reading the ending of Congressman Himes' letter. As he spoke of the Holiday Season and the trip to Afghanistan, he had the gall to ask for a donation to his campaign. While most of us see this time of year as a chance to give to others, Congressman Himes feels no shame in asking for 10 dollars for himself. That money can buy a pack of ten pair of socks for those soldiers he is visiting. Jim Himes speaks of walking 6 miles a day at work and using a pedometer to measure them. Try walking in someone else's socks and measuring distance in villages and mountain tops. I challenge the Congressman to take only one pair of socks on his trip, I will even give him his ten dollars if he does.

The callous tone and clearly out of touch message speaks volumes to the need for change in our representation. Congressman Himes may be playing fireman, and hitching a ride on the President's plane while waiting to take a junket to a war zone for a photo op, but he is clearly not doing work for our State. We need a leader that doesn't brag about walking 6 miles at work before drinking a glass of wine. Instead we need one that sticks around and actually gets something done. Connecticut, it is time to declare our resolution for the New Year, we resolve to elect someone that will get things done!

Hearst Corporation Plays Scrooge With The Few Remaining Greenwich Time Employees

With Greenwich Time ad sales down as much as 60%, the Hearst Corporation can't afford a Christmas party for it's few remaining employees.

Greenwich Time Insiders are complaining to Greenwich Roundup that they are being asked to go to a pot luck lunch at the Advocate / Greenwich Time's drab office at the River Bend office park.

One can almost hear the Greenwich Time staffers singing, ""Jingle Bells , Hearst smells The Greenwich Time laid an egg. Oh What fun it is to ride a beat up chevrolet to the unemployment office, Hey....."

Or

"Deck the Halls with laughing gases mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Watch reporters kick those editors asses......"

Things are so bad, the local rag couldn't even barter a Greenwich Time ad for a Christmas party at a local restaurant.

In similar news that is too funny to make up, Goldman Sachs has cancelled all of their christmas parties.

“The last thing they want are pictures showing up of lavish parties while everyone is talking about their paying lavish bonuses,” Mr. Hall said. “This is just not the time to be flaunting it.”

12/16/09 The Paul Burke Case Shows How News Gets Reported In Greenwich

We have all seen the Greenwich Time Headlines About Paul Burke......

A Greenwich High School lacrosse coach recently convicted of drunken driving will face mandatory jail time when he is sentenced in January after a Superior Court judge ruled Friday he will be treated as a second-time offender.

Paul Burke, 43, of New Canaan, can be sentenced to between 120 days and two years in prison for a June 2008 incident in which he crashed his car into a stone wall in Darien while under the influence of alcohol.

Burke was convicted by a jury in November after three days of trial.....

.....Currently, the coach and history teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave at Greenwich High School pending a review of his situation, according to school district officials.

According to the arrest warrant, Burke had a blood-alcohol content of .29 percent -- more than triple the legal limit -- and was coming from Greenwich at the time of the crash.

During his time as coach, Burke led the boys varsity lacrosse team to the school's first Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship in 2007. The Cardinals reached the state final that year.

In the 2009 spring season, after news of his arrest came out, the team finished 10-6 overall.

What The Greenwich Time Fails To Report Is That.....

To the Editor,

On Saturday night, one of the Darien High School nurse's was arrested for serving alcohol to minors. Her daughter, a junior at the DHS,invited what appears to be most of the junior class.

The police showed up and did their job. Most likely the 50+ cars tipped someone off. Or was it someone puking in the bushes?A few years ago, the Darien girl's varsity lacrosse coach got a "slap on the wrist" for drinking with some of her players at a party. The police were not involved and the story was put to rest very quickly. Who would want to peg THE COACH OF THE YEAR as anything but a talented coach?

Recently, in Darien, the Greenwich boy's lacrosse coach was arrested for his 3rd or 4th DWI. The Greenwich Superintendent removed the guy from his coaching position. That was the right thing to do? ..;....

As a local parent and sports mom, I was recently notified that the Lacrosse coach Paul Burke at GHS has recently received his 4th DWI. I am stunned and outraged that this man still hold this position of leadership and authority!

Where is the local news coverage?

That would explain the lack of town outrage - though there are many upset parents at GHS. This lackadaisical handling of our schools also affects real estate values. Perhaps you can look into this or open a discussion. What do you think?

Here is another email......

Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 8:17 PM

There was a meeting last night at the high school where coach Paul Burke read a prepared statement. He has figured out a way to get out of 4 DWI's and avoid jail by having his arraignment delayed by several weeks so he only has 3 DWIs within a certain period.

I am not up on the exact specifics and I was not at the meeting last night but heard about it from friends who were there. There was no Greenwich Time coverage today in the paper - I guess I should not be surprised.

I am very concerned about my incoming lacrosse player.

Not the role model I was hoping for.

12/15/09 Greenwich Resident Ned Lamont Says: Stand with me on health care

Dear Greenwich Roundup,

The health care crisis in Connecticut is real. Our small businesses struggle with skyrocketing costs that make it harder and harder for them create jobs, while more and more of our citizens cannot afford health insurance.

Yet, as we've all seen, Senator Lieberman is now threatening to weaken or derail health care reform in the Senate. If he succeeds in his efforts, we will see health care costs continue to surge faster than inflation and wages, making coverage even more unaffordable and bankrupting our small businesses and working families alike.

In 2010, Connecticut voters will elect a new governor who will play an instrumental role in deciding how we address health care reform at the state level. The next governor's job will be a lot easier if Congress can manage to overcome Senator Lieberman's obstruction and pass a health care reform bill that begins to reform the system and contain costs.

Unlike the career politicians in both parties, I wasn't afraid to speak out against the status quo and stand up for the concerns of the majority of Connecticut residents three years ago. And you can be sure I won't be afraid to stand up and speak out in the future.

But in order to do so, I will need your support.

Will you stand with me today?

Our families need and deserve a chief executive who will be a strong advocate for their concerns -- creating jobs, growing the economy, and reforming health care.

Just this year my own business saw a more than 20% increase in health care premiums, and I hear similar stories from small businesses across the state. The uncertainty of spiraling health care costs makes expansion and job growth practically impossible for our small businesses. Cost increases like this are unsustainable for everyone.

Our next governor can -- and must -- make a difference.

Please stand with me on health care -- contribute to our exploratory committee today.

Connecticut's 3.5 million citizens have waited a long time for real reform that will provide our businesses with the relief they need, our families the security they deserve, and our seniors the care they have earned.

As a problem-solver who has never had a problem challenging the status quo, I need you to stand with me in this effort.

Stand with me by making a contribution of $10, $20, $50 or more to our exploratory committee today.

Sincerely,

Ned
