04/14/08 - And The Winner Is !!!!

Win A Job! Forbes, NY

With pressure constantly growing on companies in the financial sector to make smarter hiring decisions, some firms are using real world-style contests to cast a wider net for skilled technology workers they might have missed on traditional campus recruiting tours. One example is Interactive Brokers, a Greenwich, Conn.-based broker that competes with major investment banks and hedge funds, not to mention popular tech destinations like....

....Three years ago, Interactive Brokers cooked up a trading contest to widen its talent search, luring skilled contenders on college campuses with a $100,000 top prize. This year's winner, Chris Michalak, a Ph.D. candidate in mechanical engineering at the University of British Columbia, beat out 326 other contestants from North America, Europe and Asia with a high-risk, come-from-behind bet on the euro.

Unorthodox thinking is part of the firm's corporate culture, and the contest is designed to ferret out such prospective candidates. Interactive Brokers is best known for its fast and low-cost options trading systems, and, like other financial firms, it is constantly upgrading and developing new systems to keep up with fast-moving markets. As such, it needs a solid supply of fresh ideas from software designers.....

04/14/08 - Greenwich Needs To Solve The Byram Goose Poop Problem So That We Can Go After The Drug And Gang Grafitti Problems

District 4 (Byram) RTM Is Facinated With Goose Poop As Gang Activity Increases

At the February, March And April Byram RTM Meetings Goose Poop Is Extensively Discussed. Often The Subject Comes Up Two Or More Times At The Public Meeting.

Apparently, there is a Byram RTM member who used to be reponsible for the goose poop at Byram Park and the beach. For a while the Greenwich Health Department paid for the Goose Poop removal. Then the Greenwich Parks Department was paying for the Goose Poop Removal.

But for some reason the Park's Department wanted to put the Goose Poop removal services out to bid, and someone else ecame responsible for goose poop removal.

The Former RTM member often complains that the New Goose Poop Guy dosen't even do the job, because he hires someone else to handle the Goose poop. Plus the RTM member is upset that the new Goose poop guy has a dog that's somehow not properly registered or licensed.

RTM Chairman Robert McKnight says he won't even go to Byram Beach, because residents are always bothering him about Goose poop. So McKnight goes to Old Greenwich to go to the beach.

Someone, should put the tapes of these silly public meetings up on the internet for everyone to hear. Maybe Comedy Central can send The Colbert Report up to Greenwich to discover the intense Byram Goose Poop discussions.

This same Goose Poop conversation goes on and on at every single Byram RTM meeting and the worse part is the Goose poop subject is always brought up by RTM chairman McKnight.

At the last meeting there was, of coarce Mr McKnight's same old Goose Poop conversation followed by a suggestion that the former Goose Poop RTM be appointed to a committee that over sees the Town Department that overseas the Goose Poop contract.

This is followed by the Great Byram RTM Goose Poop Conflict of Interest Debate Of April 2008.

Some members complained it would be wrong to put the former Goose poop RTM member on the committee that would oversee the Goose Poop contract, because this RTM member wants to get the Goose Poop contract back.

If the Byram RTM could solve the Goose Poop problem, they could start working on the real problems that affect the remaining single family home owners Of Byram.

When On Sits In The Byram RTM One Is Often Reminded Of Nero Playing The Violin As Everything Burned to the ground.

Chris vonKeyserling Is Just Like Goose Poop.

The other subject that Byram RTM Chairman McKnight brings up at every meeting is
Chris vonKeyserling. McKnight and a few make fun of a belittle Chris at every single meeting.

This unwarranted criticism of Mr.
vonKeyserling is totally uncalled for. There are many Byram residents that wish that their RTM would fight for their interests like vonKeyserling fights for his district.

Mr. vonKeyserling would not tolerate Gang Grafitti to cover the business district of Cos Cob. When vonKeyserling sees a problem he attacks it head on.

You never really hear persons say that Chris "The Old Connecticut Yankee"
vonKeyserling is wrong, no you just hear The RTM corporate suits saying that they don't like the way he presents his innovative solutions to the RTM.

If RTM Chairman Robert M
cKnight just had one of vonKeyserling's balls, then we could put an end to the gang graffiti in Byram.

Chris vonKeyserling would not waste meeting talking about goose poop.

But not all Byram RTM members are keeping themselves busy rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Other members try to talk about the Gang Grafitti, Drug Houses and Crime in Byram, but RTM Chairman McKnight says that three different police officials have told him there are no gangs in Byram.

One Byram RTM Board member thanks that the Byram Gang Graffitti is directing addicts to the section 8 drug houses on Pine and Spruce Streets.

Another, Byram RTM member says that all the Greenwich Police officer's that lived on High Street have moved away, because they did not want their children growing up in a drug and gang area.

Yet another, Byram RTM member theorized that Byram Gangs were using graffiti to mark there territory in an effort to keep rival Port Chester Gangs away from there lucrative drug sales.

There were even discussions that the it is very hard for the Greenwich Police Department to shut down the drug houses on Pine and Spruce, because the police officer's stick out like a sore thumb. The Greenwich Police Department must develop informants and it can takes months of informant drug buys to shut down just one house.

One RTM member said that something has to be done about "attorney groups that own 50 houses and let tenants sublet the houses one room at a time" Almost all members of the Byram RTM agreed that the building department needs to crack down on the illegal apartments that become drug distribution centers.

04/14/08 - Byram RTM Chairman Robert McKnight Says That Town Planner Diane Fox Has A Conflict Of With The Boston Consultants

There is a rumor going around town that an audio tape was made at the Byram District 4 RTM Public Meeting

Byram RTM Chairman Claims The Byram Master Plan Is Only About 30% Complete And That Her Consultants Are Saying That They Have Completed All of The Required Work.

McKnight Said He Told The Town That It Was A Bad Idea To Hire The Boston Firm Instead Of A Local Firm To Do The Byram Master Plan.

"Everytime There Is A Meeting It Costs The Town A Fortune." McKight said, "That's Why Diane Can't Deliver This Thing."

McKnight also suggested that their might be some inappropriate dealings between Ms. Fox And The Boston Consulting Firm.

The Town Of Greenwich Might Have To Pay The Boston Consultants More Money In Order To Complete The Byram Master Plan.

Robert McKnight Predicts That The Wahba Family Will Sue The Town If The Byram Master Plan Is Not Completed Soon.

Apparently The Powerful Wahba Family is getting upset with Diane Fox's delays with the Byram Master Plan.

The Wahba family is seeking to develope condos on the Champion Oil Property.

RTM District 4 Chairman Robert McKnight says that he is going to go after Diane Fox if the Byram Master Plan is not completed.

Other Byram RTM Members how a survey of the Byram Park pool can be started without having the Master Plan completed.

Some Byram RTM members felt their could be unnessary and costly delays if the two plans have conflicting visions.

Is this putting the cart before the horse?

Other RTM members are not worried because their is a Wahba on the Byram Pool Committee.

It looks like the Wahba's have all the bases covered, even the Byram Nieghborhood Association.

Maybe, Town Planner Diane Fox Should See If The Wahba Family Has Some Conflicts and have had some inappropriate dealings.

Full Disclosure:

The Two Wahba's were on the November Byram RTM Ballot, but were not allowed to be seated due to the fact that they did not live in Byram, before the election.

The Repuublican's then had the Wahba's appointed to complete the terms of Byram RTM seats that did not exist.

According to The Town Of Greenwich Web Site:

04/14/08 - Freedom With Resposability? Let Greenwich High School Students Speak Their Minds (Updated)

Censorship in Greenwich

by asuriano

I just read a very well written letter in the Greenwich Time. The letter was written by Ryan Fazio, the former editor of “The Beak”, a high school newspaper in Greenwich, Connecticut. Since he is no longer editor-in-chief he felt the need to express his true feelings in an open forum. Fazio explains that the newspaper is suffering from “systematic and bureaucratic censorship” and that all the final decisions for the paper are made by one teacher advisor, who “has the pressure of school administration on his shoulders.”

Fazio personally has had three of his editorials censored from subjects reigning from the current drinking age and the illegality of steroids. Some other editorials that were censored were about the “futility of a college fair” at their high school and another on a person’s opinion of the Greenwich culture.

Although Fazio states that “The Beak” has been making progress, he explains that it is still severely limited to its publications. A good point he makes is the irony of the school’s theme of “freedom with responsibility”, because it seems that this newspaper does not have much freedom at all.

On a personal note, I can understand there being some censorship in a high school newspaper, but there are other ways students can express themselves! Blogs for instance are a great outlet for anyone to put out their opinion and read others.....

Allison Suriano's Weblog - http://asuriano.wordpress.com

Here is Ryan's Letter To
The Greenwich Time Editor........

Censorship undercuts goal of student newspaper

To the editor:

For the past year as executive editor of The Beak, I witnessed both the good and bad of Greenwich High School's student newspaper. But in my capacity, I never had the opportunity to assess it in a public forum and especially wouldn't be allowed to criticize it. But now that April has come, and a new editorial board has replaced the old one, I am in the position to pronounce what is wrong with The Beak, informed by three years of various experience.

The systematic, bureaucratic censorship of The Beak, as well as all other student media at GHS, severely hamstrings the intellectual and informational quality of its product. A myriad of regulations are enforced on a whim by a single faculty adviser who has the pressure of school administration on his shoulders. Similarly, other publications, such as the satirical Weekling, and any organization wishing to disseminate information are unilaterally censored by the overbearing student activities office

CENSORED **** We Must Shut Down Ryan **** CENSORED How Dare He Write About The Current Drinking Age **** CENSORED ***** Ryan Is A Dangerous Subversive **** CENSORED **** OMG !!! - Ryan Wants To Write About Steriods ***** CENSORED **** Get Someone Expell This Kid For Having Original Thoughts **** CENSORED **** There Is No Way In Hell We Can Have Ryan Writing About College Fairs **** CENSORED ***** Let's Arrange For A Parent Teacher Conference **** CENSORED **** If we let Ryan express his original thoughts at Greenwich High School, then other students will want to start expressing their original thoughts **** CENSORED **** There Will Be No Intelectual Freedom At Greenwich High School **** CENSORED

students cannot be allowed to discuss freely news and ideas, then one must question the value of the educational environment they are stuck in.

Ryan Fazio

Greenwich

(Please note that if you follow this link to Ryan's letter to the editor your IP address will be logged and the Greenwich High School activities office may have to start a file on you and your family)

Hey, Teacher Leave That Kid Alone, Because All You Are Is Just Another Brick In The Wall

Score one for Ryan and give nothing to those losers in the student activities office who have no idea what Freedom of Thought is all about.

To deny a person's freedom of thought is to deny what can be considered one's most basic freedom; to think for one's self.

Since the whole concept of 'freedom of thought' rests on the freedom of the individual to believe whatever one thinks is best (freedom of belief), the notion of 'freedom of religion' is closely related and inextricably bound up with these.

While in many societies and forms of government, there has been effectively no freedom of religion or belief, this same freedom has been cherished and developed to a great extent in the modern western world, such that it has often been taken for granted.

This development was enshrined in words in the United States Constitution by the Bill of Rights, which contains the famous guarantee in the First Amendment that laws may not be made that interfere with religion "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". Today nearly all democratic nations around the world contain similar language within their respective Constitutions.

A US Supreme Court Justice (Benjamin Cardozo) later went on to reason in Palko v. Connecticut (1937) that:

"Freedom of thought... is the matrix, the indispensable condition, of nearly every other form of freedom. With rare aberrations a pervasive recognition of this truth can be traced in our history, political and legal."

In other words, without the right to freedom of thought, other rights such as the right to freedom of speech hold little meaning.

Such ideas regarding freedom of thought, as developed over time, ultimately became a vital part of international human rights law. In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), it is listed under Article 18:

Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

The Human Rights Committee states that the above Article 18, which became legally binding on member states with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights;

"distinguishes the freedom of thought, conscience, religion or belief from the freedom to manifest religion or belief. It does not permit any limitations whatsoever on the freedom of thought and conscience or on the freedom to have or adopt a religion or belief of one's choice. These freedoms are protected unconditionally."

Similarly, Article 19 of the UDHR guarantees that "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference..."

In other words, trying to control the thoughts of others is as futile as trying to control death.

By trying to control the thoughts of Ryan Fazio the Greenwich High School student activities office has inadvertently given Ryan a larger forum and themselves a well deserved black eye.

Now the Board Of Education Wants To Break Up The Glenville School. Younger Children Will Be Placed In The Retrofitted Moldy Modulars And Older Children Will Be Squeezed In To Over Crowed Schools Around Town.

The BOE wants to rip out the molded roof overhang and then place small children in the contaminated modular space.

Now lets see if we can get this straight, if the Hamilton Avenue School Parent's independent tester even gets near the mold, then the contamination is going to spread exceptionally and cause all kinds of additional contamination.

But if a bunch of construction contractors in space suit rip out the roof overhang then the small children of Glenville school will be just fine.

The Greenwich Board Of Education is just as silly as it looks if it thinks a responsible Glenville mother will even consider putting her children into the contaminated space.

How dose the BOE expect a Glenville mother to go along with plan to split up Glenville School when Greenwich School Supintendent Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg won't even let Greenwich Parents independently test the modular classrooms, especially in the contaminated soffis - or overhang - of the modular classrooms.

The Facts are the facts:

Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg's school system replaced molded ceiling tiles at the modular classrooms over one year ago and KNOWINGLY left the small children in the contaminated classrooms with out informing their parents.

Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg's school system ignored parents complaints about their children's health problems for over one year, while KNOWING that the classrooms were contaminated.

Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg's school system ignored parents complaints about poor maintenance procedures.

Greenwich Roundup became involved with this story when a concerned Hamilton Avenue School parent was upset that the Hamilton Avenue School parent was upset that water was leaking in her child's classroom.

This parent said that school officials, BOE members, local politicians and media outlets ignored the water leaks in the modular classrooms

02/14/08 - Which High Paid School Administrator Is Responsible For Maintaing The Temporary Classrooms At Western Middle School?

Day after day the Hamilton Avenue School parents have been proven right and Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg's school system is shown to be less than honest

On February 14th we reported that the Hamilton Avenue School Parents were saying that the modular school roofs....

Quote:

It was water leaking that caused the sever mold problems at Hamilton Avenue School that put these little children in temporary classrooms at Western Middle School.

School parents are blaming school custodians for not removing snow from the temporary classroom roofs, in an effort to prevent the leaking water.

These temporary classrooms are not even
two years old !!!

Weeks latter
Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg's school system shut down the contaminated modular classrooms and repeatedly tried to give the impression that the contaminated modular classroom were only because of design flaws and not lack of maintenance.

03/13/08 - Just How Much Are The Taxpayers Of Greenwich Paying Superintendent Betty Sternberg And Her Failed Administrators To Lie To The Public?

HEADLINE:

An environmental consultant hired by the school district has said the ceiling of one of the classrooms affected by the roof leaks had mold growth.

LIE OF THE DAY:

Sternberg and other officials said design and construction flaws rather than maintenance shortcomings caused the mold problems at the modulars. They said roof leaks reported months earlier at the modulars were properly addressed and not connected to the mold found inside the walls and in the roof eaves.

STORY:

Greenwich Time - Staff Writer

Five years ago, when mold problems began surfacing at the old Hamilton Avenue School and other buildings, school district officials implemented a program to help identify and prevent similar problems from occurring in the future.

But now they admit the program was not uniformly put into practice across the district....

Greenwich Roundup says.... But, school officials did identify the mold in the modular classrooms over one year ago. The problem is that they hid the mold from Glenville and Hamilton Avenue School parents.

Now Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg's School System's structural engineer Steve Susca now says that school officials must take extra care to keep ice off the roof and take preventive steps to keep moisture from entering the building and classrooms.

Now Structural Engineer Susca told parents at a public hearing that, "This is a high maintenance roof." and that the contaminated modular roof is "Going to reqire a high degree of maintenance".

It looks like the Hamilton Avenue Parents were right all along about the maintenace problems at the contaminated modular classrooms and Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg's school system is trying to manage a coverup that is unravelling right before our very eyes.

MORE INFORMATION:

The problems with mold usually stem from the symptoms and health effects resulting from indoor mold exposure. There is public awareness that exposure to mold can cause adverse health effects, symptoms, and possible allergic reactions. Health professionals are often tasked with the investigation and/or assessment of these health effects on employees and/or the public.

The most common form of hypersensitivity is caused by the direct exposure to inhaled mold spores that can be dead or alive or hyphal fragments which can lead to allergic asthma or allergic rhinitis. The most common effects are Rhinorrhea (runny nose), watery eyes, coughing and asthma attacks. Another form of hypersensitivity is hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP). This is usually the direct result of inhaled large spores or fragments in an occupational setting. About 5% of individuals are predicted to have some allergic airway symptoms from molds over their lifetime.

Toxic effects from mold are produced by exposure to the mycotoxins of some mold species, such as Stachybotrys chartarum (S. chartarum). These are often referred to as “Toxic molds” These toxic molds are often implicated as a potential cause of Sick Building Syndrome.
