Greenwich Parks and Recreation Department sponsored an All Star Baseball Challenge night for all the players in the Summer Baseball League. The event was held at the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink, inside on the turf and outside on the Byram Baseball Field. The event went very well and all the players and people in attendance had a good time.
There was a cookout, bounce rides, music, a radar gun clocking players' throwing speeds, home run derby, and a long ball competition where players could find out how many feet they could hit the ball. All participants were able to receive a water bottle or medal and the winners in each age group received a trophy.
Events like this cannot happen without teamwork and without groups of people who are willing to help. I was fortunate to have an excellent group of volunteers and co-workers who were willing give some of their time. Without people willing to lend a hand, youth events like this would not happen.
