06/14/10 Western Middle School's Carnival Thursday, Friday And Saturday

Please post. Thank you.

Maureen Feuerman,

Western Middle School PTA Secretary

Western Middle School PTA Carnival This Weekend (June 17th - June 19th)

The Western Middle School PTA sponsored carnival will be held this weekend at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, 100 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT. The carnival will start on Thursday, June 17th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It will also run on Friday, June 18th from 6 p.m. to 10 and Saturday, June 19th from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, June 19th from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. will be a rain date, if needed.

The carnival is a wonderful community event to end a terrific school year for Western Middle School. Families, teachers, and staff are coming together to have fun and support enhancement programs at Western. Proceeds from the carnival are used to enhance learning experiences for Western Middle School students. A few of these enhancements include funding college scholarships for Western graduates, a school wide Martin Luther King assembly, Festival of Learning workshops, International Night, and a Shakespeare experience.

The carnival will include rides that appeal to young children through adults. In addition to these rides, there will be carnival games. The Western Middle School PTA will also be sponsoring a bake/beverage sale. All proceeds from this bake/beverage sale will be used directly for the above mentioned enhancement programs.

Admission to the carnival is free. Tickets for rides will be sold at the carnival at a price of 21 tickets for $20. There is also a nominal fee for carnival games.

On Friday evening, the Western Middle School Student Council will be sponsoring a dunk tank. In keeping with the community nature, Western Middle School teachers and staff have graciously volunteered to sit in the dunk tank. Also on Saturday evening, Linwood Peel's tribute to the Drifters will perform from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

06/14/10 Greenwich Taxi Driver With Suspended License Nabbed - Again

A man arrested and charged in March with driving while intoxicated had the bad luck to have the same officer spot him driving on Steamboat Road Saturday, even though his license was suspended.

Robin H. Plasencia, 34, of 8 Moshier St., was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. The state suspended his license on April 8 following his March 3 arrest in Greenwich on the drinking and driving charges.

On Saturday he produced a New York driver's license that was issued March 11. The address on that license was a Port Chester post office box, said Lt. Kraig Gray. A spokesman for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles could not be reached late Monday.

Police said Plasencia was stopped while driving a taxi and had two fares onboard.

Anthony Boskello, owner of Greenwich Taxi, said Plasencia was let go following his March arrest. However, Boskello said, the man hadn't returned the Greenwich Taxi stickers that are affixed to the vehicles.

Boskello said he didn't know anything about the passengers and said they were not dispatched through his company. The drivers are independent contractors and own their own vehicles, he said.

Police said Plasencia also had two prior DWI convictions in New York.

Plasencia was released on a $1,000 bond.

and is scheduled to appear in court on July 1.

06/14/10 Desperate Hearst Newspaper Editor David McCumber Is Coping Greenwich Roundup In An Effort To Ad Some Excitement To The Boring Greenwich Time

ONLY IN THE SUNDAY PRINT EDITION OF THE GREENWICH TIME

Greenwich Roundup Had To Dig This Copy Of The Money Losing Greenwich Time From A Neighbor's Recycling Bin

Day after day Greenwich Roundup grows exponentially as the money losing Greenwich Time is continually run in the Ground by Hearst Newspapers.

The Greenwich Time has five editors in less than two years and each editor has left the money losing local rag in a worse condition than he originally found it.

The current editor David McCumber has performed no better than the other incompetent editors that preceded him.

First MCumber reformatted and relaunched the Greenwich Time Website, then he did the same to print version. Then he once again reformatted and relaunched the website again in late February.

But nothing was working so last month Greenwich Time Editor David McCumber reformatted and relaunch the print edition once again.

Now McCumber has thrown out the Hearst Newspaper style book and started coping Greenwich Roundup's signature posting style ....

YES IT IS TRUE >>>> Greenwich Time Editor David McCumber has copied Greenwich Roundup ........ and added some text in different sized letters in a variety of different colors, FONTS and sizes

Greenwich Roundup should have trade marked putting text in stupidly-sized letters in a variety of different colors, fonts and sizes.

06/14/10 Dan Debicella: Campaign Update

Dear Friends,

Our campaign continues to forge ahead and thanks to you our last week was a productive one!

Yesterday myself and our volunteers were in Redding for the Georgetown Festival and on Saturday we were in Southport for the annual Blessing of the Fleet. Following that, I had the honor of attending the CT Fallen Heroes event in Trumbull. It was a powerful event and I’m proud to have been there with so many families to honor their brave loved ones who are no longer with us.

Our team also had a presence at the Black Rock Parade in Bridgeport, and our volunteers knocked on doors in four different towns.

This coming week there are a number of key events. I will be holding meet & greets in Darien and Greenwich. Plus, I’m attending events and meetings in Bridgeport, Ridgefield, Norwalk, and Westport. If you’re interested in learning more about these events, please email me at info@debicella.com.

In other news, we continue to forge ahead to November and a face-off with Jim Himes. Our volunteers – led by our outstanding field coordinators - are on the phones every day and they were even out knocking on doors in the rain. If you’re interested in getting involved in our campaign to bring common sense solutions to Washington, you can sign up to volunteer here.

Thank you for all of your help and support as we march toward November.

All my best,

-Dan

P.S. Helping us get the message out makes a big difference. If you’re willing to make an online contribution of $25, $50, or $100, you can do so by clicking here.

06/14/10Rick Torres Contrasts Himself From Competitor In The Primary That Will Determine Who Will Take On Greenwich Resident And Congressman Jim Himes

Rick Torres, candidate in Connecticut’s 4th Congressional district, has highlighted what he believes to be the critical distinctions between him and his rivals in the race.

Anyone who runs for office to better our country deserves respect, only certain policies warrant support.

Labels are too often misleading, which is why policies matter.

To illustrate, Torres points to a press release by rival Rob Merkle, who professes to be a fiscal conservative.

In the release, Merkle claims to be a ‘”small business owner who strives to reduce the size, reach and burden of the federal government.”

“His policies do anything but reduce the size of government,” Torres notes. “He is merely another big-government Republican.”

Torres points to just two of the many big government solutions Merkle advocates:

1. In a poor attempt to 'help' the economy, Merkle praises the SBA loan program. “The Small Business Administration is a government agency which actually takes taxpayer monies and decides who to loan it to. It is another form of corporate welfare,” Torres says.

2. Another of Merkle’s poor attempts to revive the economy is virtually identical to the 'jobs plan' of Barack Obama. It is to “mandate” banks to make loans to small businesses. Torres points out that banks are private enterprises.

“Government mandating banks to give loans to property owners resulted in the near collapse of our economy. Yet Merkle wants the government to repeat this same mistake and hopes for a different outcome.”

“These policies led to the budget deficits, tax increases and unemployment we have today. We cannot spend our way out of a recession or tax our way to prosperity. Clearly, a conservative should know this,” Torres asserted.
