07/25/11 Richard's Department Store In Greenwich Finds New Video Tape And A New York Socialite Is Charged With Stealing Another Overpriced Scarf

A Manhattan socialite who already faces charges of stealing an $11,000 scarf has been arrested again — for stealing another scarf from the same store two days earlier, police said.

Beata Boman, 38, of 123 54th St. in New York, first got the attention of store security at Richards of Greenwich on June 11, police said, but they initially didn't see her steal anything.

Then, on June 13, they saw her shoplift a scarf that cost $11,000, police said. She was arrested that day after a security guard stopped her outside the store.

After that incident, store security officers reviewed videotape from previous days, and they saw Boman stealing another scarf — a blue $725 Loro Piana — on June 11, said Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gary.

"Now they know for sure she's a thief," Gary said. "It's clear on the video camera, now that they go back and look at it."

A warrant charging her with fifth-degree larceny was signed by a judge on July 20. She turned herself in to police at 9:35 a.m. Sunday, police said.

She posted $500 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Stamford on Aug. 1.

The self-described former model and fashion designer made news in Britain in 2008 after photographs of her and Prince Andrew kissing in St. Tropez were published in the Daily Mail.

Cops: Socialite Beata Boman stole second scarf from Greenwich store

Updated 02:00 p.m., Monday, July 25, 2011

The Polish-born Manhattan socialite accused of stealing an $11,000 fur-lined scarf from Richards of Greenwich last month was arrested again on Sunday and charged with stealing a less expensive scarf two days earlier, police said.

Police say Beata Boman, a New York City fashion designer once romantically linked to Prince Andrew of Great Britain, stole a $725 Loro Piana scarf from Richards of Greenwich on June 11 -- two days before she was charged with stealing an $11,000 scarf from the same store high-end Greenwich Avenue boutique.

Boman, 38, turned herself into Greenwich Police Sunday after learning there was a warrant for her arrest. She was charged with fifth-degree larceny and released after posting $500 bond.

Police say that, during an investigation into the June 13 incident, store security went back through surveillance video and discovered Boman stealing the cheaper scarf on June 11.

Boman's lawyer, Mark Sherman, said his client recently underwent brain surgery, and that health issues are at the root of her behavior.

07/25/11 Senior VP Of Hearst Newspapers Lincoln Millstein: Dundee, IB school in Greenwich, continues its sharp decline in statewide ranking

Is this our future?

No wonder Sid Freund wants to move the goal posts. I would too. After two years of his tenure as superintendent, Greenwich went from being the 41st ranked district in the state to No. 48. I wrote previously that it was unfair to judge his performance after only one year. But after two years, Greenwich is clearly moving in the wrong direction, and the decline is accelerating.

Take the case of Dundee School, the poster child of Freund’s campaign to move Greenwich to an International Baccalaureate curriculum favored by many parents.

Let’s go to the scoreboard:

- Dundee has been dropping like a rock for five years since it was ranked the fifth best elementary school in Connecticut according to a compilation of the math and reading scores of third and fourth graders. In 2006-07, Dundee was by far the highest ranking Greenwich school at any level. Eastern was the No. 10 middle school in the state and Riverside was ranked 19.

Today, Dundee is ranked 80, having dropped 34 places in one year! In 2007-08, it went from No. 5 to No. 30. In 2008-09, it went from No. 30 to No. 44. In 2009-10, it went to No. 46. And now it has tumbled to No. 80.

The thing about scores is that they don’t lie. About half of the 11 Greenwich elementary schools...
