First Selectman Peter Tesei got the last laugh Tuesday in his re-election battle against Lin Lavery, a no-holds-barred contest that the Republican's supporters said was as much a statement on the tenor of the campaign as Tesei's leadership.
As a crowd of Republican supporters gathered Tuesday night at the St. Lawrence Society in Cos Cob, the mood remained confident as the polls began to come back overwhelmingly in their favor.

Democratic Town Committee member Frank Farricker started the evening on Tuesday optimistic about his party's odds.
Minutes before voter tallies began trickling in around 8 p.m., Farricker said his fellow Democrat Lin Lavery was running neck-and-neck with Republican incumbent Peter Tesei in the first selectman polls -- by as narrow as a 500-vote margin.

Several cars were broken into in northwest Greenwich overnight, police discovered Tuesday morning. Police were called to 6 Mansion Place, off King Street, at around 6:15 a. m. to respond to a car break-in. When they arrived, they noticed five more cars on Bowman Drive, Stonehedge Drive South and Stonehedge Drive North had also been burglarized. A GPS unit was taken from one of the vehicles, according to Lt. Daniel Allen, but he did not have information on any other items that had been stolen.
