Will Greenwich Time Business Editor Jim Zebora Be Absorbed Into Bloomberg's Gleaming Mothership, Where Billions Are Made

Another struggling Hearst newspaper called the San Francisco Chronicle is combining powers with Boomberg News' San Francisco bureau to launch a beefed up daily business section.

Starting eight days ago, the "Business Report" in print editions, and on both of the Chronicle's websites, will offer news and reporting from both Chronicle and Bloomberg reporters.

The Hearst-owned Chronicle can use all the help they can get from the blow they took in 2009: The daily paper took a the largest drop in circulation out of any other U.S. paper during the six-month period ending in September 2009. They lost 25.8% of their subscribers, to 251,782 of them, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

Currently, the money losing Greenwich Time covers the hedge fund industry with a Wall Street Journal insert in its Sunday edition.

Currently Bloomberg helps the Greenwich Time with a weekly local stock performance recap.

Could adding Bloomberg reports to the Greenwich Time's daily business section be an essential read for business, financial and technology coverage of Greenwich and Fairfield County?

Greenwich Time is a daily newspaper based in Greenwich, Connecticut, USA. The paper shares an editor and publisher with The Advocate of nearby Stamford, Connecticut. Both papers are owned by Hearst Corporation and operated through a joint venture by MediaNews Group.

The Time and its sister paper, The Advocate, were sold to Hearst for US$62.4 million by Tribune Company in a deal that closed November 1, 2007. The sale did not include Tribune-owned land in Stamford and Greenwich, including the papers' printing presses. Eventually, Hearst plans to print both The Advocate and the Time at the Connecticut Post plant in Bridgeport. The Post is owned by MediaNews, which manages The Advocate and the Time for Hearst, taking 60 percent of net income from the papers.^[2]

In March 2007, Tribune Co. had announced it would sell the two papers to Gannett for US$73 million, but the deal fell through when Gannett refused to honor 35 Advocate newsroom workers' union contract with Local 2110 of United Auto Workers.^[2]
