06/10/10 Tom Foley Says Stop The Frivolous Waste of Your Tax Dollars

Tom was honored recently to receive the endorsement of the Republican Party at the GOP state convention on May 22.

We need to keep the Governor's office in Republican hands and he needs your help with two things.

First, this is going to be an expensive race and Tom needs all of the financial support he can get. I hope you will consider making a contribution to his campaign.

Second, Lieutenant Governor Mike Fedele has put his name on the ballot to force a primary despite a 20-point loss at the Republican Convention. As a Republican I don't mind a primary, but I do mind that the Lieutenant Governor is trying to use taxpayers' dollars to finance his campaign.

He is asking people for contributions so he can qualify to use taxpayers' money for advertising, balloons, bumper stickers and high priced consultants against a fellow Republican.

Most Republicans don't understand how a candidate for Governor whose most important leadership challenge will be reducing government spending can start off by asking taxpayers to pay up to $2.5 million for his primary campaign.

Instead, he should be asking to have the "Citizens Election Program" repealed. The program is referred to mockingly as the incumbents' full-employment program and it could cost the state over tens of millions of dollars this election cycle.

Tom has rejected the use of taxpayers' money for his campaign. Please help get the message through to Mike Fedele that he shouldn't be seeking to qualify to use taxpayers' money for his campaign. We have a perfectly good and clean system for fundraising in this state without relying on tax dollars. Tom is using that system and Mike Fedele should too.

Let's rally together to keep the Connecticut Governor's office in Republican hands and stop the use of taxpayers' money for funding gubernatorial campaigns.

Sincerely,

Justin R. Clark
Campaign Manager

06/10/10 Dan Debicella Says Greenwich Resident Jim Himes Runs From Record

Himes Runs From Record

Dear Friends,

Jim Himes is running from his record already. After rubber-stamping a $1.4 trillion deficit and a 22% increase in discretionary spending, he is now calling for some "spending restraint".

Now that he faces a tough campaign against me, Himes is now paying lip service to fiscal responsibility. He cannot match my proven record of fiscal responsibility. Himes was recently quoted in Politico paying lip service to responsibility saying, “I’m just at a point where I don’t want to see any more unpaid spending.”

This is the same person who voted for the auto industry bailouts, the ineffective stimulus plan, a massive health care expansion, and to raise the debt limit another $1.9 billion this year! Yesterday, the Westport Minuteman took Himes to task and had this to say about his sudden dash to middle ground.

Himes’ record of fiscal responsibility has been non-existent when you look at his actual votes – and he can’t hide from it. He has become a guaranteed vote for DC insiders, voting lock-step with his party 95% of the time.

Jim Himes is not the independent he claims to be and he does not represent the average families of Fairfield County. Himes is going to use his large war chest to distort the facts and his true voting record since he has been in Washington. This is why a donation of $25, $50, $100 to my campaign will truly help support the values of free enterprise, smaller government, and individual liberty we all hold so dear.

Please make a contribution to my campaign or sign up to volunteer to help restore fiscal responsibility to Washington.

All my best,

-Dan

PS: The campaign office is open from 10AM to 8PM, M-F and Saturdays beginning at 9:30AM. We are located at 98 East Ave, Norwalk. Call the office at (203) 663-2777 and ask for John.

Dan Debicella

A Red Boyhood

Free and Open to the Public

The Cos Cob Library and Just Books are pleased to welcome Anatole Konstantin as he introduces his newest novel A Red Boyhood: Growing Up Under Stalin (University of Missouri Press; $29.95). Konstantin grew up in Germany and attended the Technical University of Munich; he immigrated to the United States in 1949 and continued his engineering studies at Columbia University. He is the founder of PDC International Corporation and lives in Connecticut.

When the secret police came for his father in 1938, ten-year-old Konstantin saw his family plunged into a morass of fear. His memoir of growing up in Stalinist Russia re-creates the daily trials of people trapped in this regime before and during the repressive years of World War II--and the equally horrific struggles of refugees afterwards. Konstantin reflects on his formal education under harsh conditions and his growing awareness of the contradictions between propaganda and reality. He tells of life in a small Ukrainian town before the war and of how some citizens collaborated with the Nazi occupation. He also offers a look at everyday life in early postwar Poland and Germany, as well as one of the few firsthand accounts of life in postwar Displaced Persons camps.
