04/05/10 Hey, Greenwich Time, Get Ready For Bloomberg!

Will Greenwich Time Business Editor Jim Zebora Be Absorbed Into Bloomberg's Gleaming Mothership, Where Billions Are Made

Another struggling Hearst newspaper called the San Francisco Chronicle is combining powers with Boomberg News' San Francisco bureau to launch a beefed up daily business section.

Starting eight days ago, the "Business Report" in print editions, and on both of the Chronicle's websites, will offer news and reporting from both Chronicle and Bloomberg reporters.

The Hearst-owned Chronicle can use all the help they can get from the blow they took in 2009: The daily paper took a the largest drop in circulation out of any other U.S. paper during the six-month period ending in September 2009. They lost 25.8% of their subscribers, to 251,782 of them, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

Will The Greenwich Time Be Kissing
Rupert Murdock's Wall Street Journal Goodbye?

Currently, the money losing Greenwich Time covers the hedge fund industry with a Wall Street Journal insert in its Sunday edition.

Will Bloomberg come to Greenwich and hone in on Greenwich Hedge Funds and regional real estate, jobs, personal finance?

Currently Bloomberg helps the Greenwich Time with a weekly local stock performance recap.

Could adding Bloomberg reports to the Greenwich Time's daily business section be an essential read for business, financial and technology coverage of Greenwich and Fairfield County?

1/6/09The New York Times Will Allow Front Page Ads Like The Greenwich Time Does?...... Will Anoying Stickers Soon Appear On The Front Of The Gey Lady?

NOTHING IS SACRED ANYMORE

GREENWICH RESIDENTS ARE SHOCKED TO FIND A CBS TV AD ON THE FRONT OF THEIR NEW YORK TIMES NEWSPAPER:

WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO.....
FIRST GRENWICHITES GET WIPED OUT BY BERNARD MADOFF AND WALTER "FEEDER FUND" NOEL.
NOW THE GREY LADY HAS ADS ON THE COVER - NOTHING IS SACRED ANYMORE !!!!

FRONT - PAGE NEWS

Times' Cover Ads Go For $75,000 - Plus

New York Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Follows Greenwich Time John Dunster's Lead And Smashes "The Paper Of Record's" Chinese Wall Between News And Advertising

One Of Greenwich Roundup's Clients Who Is A Greenwich Resident And Media Buyer Says That The New York Times Is Shopping Ad Space On It's Front Page For $75,000 On Weekdays

The Grey Lady finally made the decision to break away from the longstanding tradition and sell front page ads - starting with yesterday's edition - as it tries to cope with a serious ad slump and growing debt.

Like the Greenwich Time, most major newspapers, including USA Today and the Wall Street Journal put ads on their front pages, in the same manner as Hearst Newspaper's Greenwich Time property does.

TV Network CBS was the first advertiser to take advantage of the prime placement - a two and a half-inch deep horizontal strip across the bottom of the front page - in yesterday's paper.

The open rate for a national New York Times full page ad starts at $140,000.

Apparently, The Times is leveraging the front page space to get big national advertisers to increase their ad buys.

The paper is limiting the front page to big advertisers willing to spend more on top of their existing budgets.

A new advertiser who wants access to the space has to commit to buying the ad 36 times during the year - for a total of almost $2 million, according to our ad buyer friend.

Business reports have previously said that the Times ad revenue fell 21% in November.

The papers problems are exasperated by over $1 billion in debt.

Other business news reports says the company plans to sell or mortgage its headquarters in an effort to raise $225 million.

The times has also slashed its dividend by 75%.

Other business reports have documented the Times is laying off workers in order to save cash.

Recently, the paper has also trimmed the size of its front pages to cut paper and printing costs.

COMMENT:

This is indicative of newspapers becoming more flexible.

Will the Greenwich Newspapers start to increase the amount of ad space on their front pages?

Just how much does Greenwich Hospital pay for those front page Greenwich Time Ads and anoying stickers?

0930/08 Exclusive: The Scribe Of Greenwich Is Back At His Computer Terminal And Has Just Scooped A Greenwich Time Reporter Who Is Wet Behind The Ears

Mainstream Greenwich Time Education Reporter Colin Gustafson And Betty Sternberg Both Get Big Fat F's. Colin Gets An F for letting The Board Of Education Spoon Feed Greenwich Parents Misinformation About The Harris Survey Via His Pitiful Reporting.

A Citizen Journalist Bill Clark For Going Down To The School Administration Building And Actually Picking Up A Copy Of The Harris Survey And Independently Interpreting The Data With Out BOE Communication Director Kim Eves Spin.

If Greenwich Time Editor David Warner Was Worth His Salt He Would Walk Over To Cub Reporter Colin Gustafson Desk And Say, "Show Me Your Copy Of The Harris Survey."

And When Armature Reporter Colin Gustafson Could Only Show Him Board Of Education Press Releases About The Survey. Colin Would Be Shown The Door And Given Information On How To Reach The Other Fired Greenwich Time Employees At Our Greenwich .

Why Isn't Greenwich Time Editor David Warner Smart enough to hire real talent like Citizen journalist Bill "The Scribe Of Greenwich" Clark who is not afraid to bring the Greenwich school parents and the single family homeowners this exclusive news story:

By Bill "The Scribe Of Greenwich" Clark

Your scribe has been down to the Board of Ed, and has picked up a copy of the Harris survey that was carried out in May and June of this year. As you may recall, dear reader, the survey was machine-readable, having been filled out with #2 lead pencils just as we all used to do with the SATs. Theoretically, the raw results should have been available within 24 hours. But that's not the way these surveys work.

Clearly the public cannot be trusted with the raw data. It has to be massaged and obfuscated first. If certain results are not as wished, a portion of the surveys can simply be declared unusable. If a certain issue - e.g., the level of dissatisfaction with the superintendant - is too one-sided, the "impact index" must be applied to mitigate this fact. Other factors used to massage the data are called the "incidence rate" and the "penalty", which must be multiplied together to provide the numerator of the "impact score", and so on and so forth. Finally, if a certain segment of the population survey (in this case, community leaders and RTM members) is wildly anti-Betty, you can just decide not to report most of their results at all.

The survey was filled out by four general categories of "stakeholders" (shades of Wall Street!): students, teachers, parents, and community leaders. The students, being clearly not yet fully educated by definition, were not allowed to register an opinion of Betty. But the other three categories were, and in each of these groups Betty came in dead last in the "satisfaction" sweepstakes.

The scale used by Harris is the usual 1 to 10. As we all recall from our own schooldays, a grade of 60% was a low pass - a "D". 70% was a "C"; 80% was a "B"; and 90% or better was an "A". Anything below 60% was an automatic "F".

The teachers and staff gave the school system an overall satisfaction rating of 66% - a D+, let us say. The highest satisfaction for them was with the school atmosphere, parental support, the local principal, their own careers, and the students. These grades averaged out to just under 80% - call it a B-.

But Betty? She got the lowest rating of all at 50%, closely followed by the School Board at 52% and the central administration at the Havemeyer Building of 54%. Oops. Looks like they all got an F.

Betty did better with the parents, oddly enough. The parents' overall satisfaction rating was 76% - a C+. But Betty again got the lowest rating from them, at 57%. Oops. Another F.

The community leaders had an overall satisfaction rate of 70%, down from 83% just two years ago. That's a solid C, folks. Not a great grade for the Town of Greenwich school system. And who, of course, got the lowest rating in the survey? Why, Betty, of course - 54%. Oops again. Yet another F.

The only group allowed to rate the School Board as a separate category were the community leaders. Only two years ago, the level of community dissatisfaction with the Board (why does Harris suddenly reverse the reporting methodology like this?!) was 17%. Now it has soared to 39%. Harris deems this to be a "Negative" trend. No sh*t, Sherlock. For this they get the big bucks?

So there you have it, dear reader: Betty gets a resounding "F" from teachers, parents, and the community. But she continues to draw her obscene salary and benefits package of well over a quarter of a million dollars. Is there something wrong with this picture? Are we living in Greenwich or Wonderland? Or is there any difference between them?

Comment:

Definition: Bill Clark » A journalist worth his salt

Many would-be amateur journalists like Colin Gustafson seem intimidated by the Board Of Education. Thank God Greenwich Taxpayers have the Scribe Of Greenwich to alert them to what is really happening at the BOE.

You can't trust the sloppy and incomplete reporting at the Greenwich Time, but you can trust the factual writings of Bill Clark so do the smart thing and subscribe to Greenwich Gossip's RSS Feed.

04/28/08 - Do you really think it was Greenwich Senior Citizens who were involved in counterfeiting beach passes?

Town Of Greenwich Is Going To Put An End To The Senior Citizen Beach Card Counterfeiting Gangs.

Park's Department Head Joseph Siciliano has another dumb idea.

Joesph Siciliano is going to put holograms on senior citizen passes this year in order to stop the beach pass counterfeiters in Town.

Who the heck is going to make fake senior citizen beach passes?

Duh, Would Someone Please Tell Joseph Sicilano The Town Of Greenwich gives out senior citizen beach for
FREE !!!

Why isn't Joseph Siciliano smart enough to put the holograms on this years beach card, which costs $27 per person?

Better yet why isn't Joseph Siciliano smart enough to get holograms on parking stickers that cost $100 each?

Why isn't Joseph Sicilano smart enough to protect the taxpayers by calling one of the hundreds of firms that quickly deliver holograms?

Affordable Holograms USA

It's easy to get 1,000 holigrams for less than $200.

Here Is A Good Example Of
Incompetent-High-Paid Greenwich Town Administrators Pretending To Be At Work....

Currently, beach cards have the town seal printed on them as well as a bar code, though the town does not plan to scan the bar codes until next year.

Why isn't Joseph Siciliano smart enough to realize that Hand-held bar code scanners are cheap !!!!

The Park pass bar codes are going to be in sequential order.

It is very easy to program a barcode scanner to accept pass numbers 00001 - 19145 and to reject all of the other numbers.

When is the Greenwich News Media Outlets Going To Start Asking Objective Questions That Deliver Hard Hitting Journalism That Protects The Single Family Home Owners And Taxpayers Of Greenwich?

Please read this Greenwich Time article and tell me if you see one quote from a Greenwich citizen or an opposing politician that thinks the public trust has been violated and that tax dollars are being mismanaged.

Beach cards to get holograms

To outsmart would-be counterfeiters, the town is introducing holograms on beach cards issued to senior citizens this year.

Next year, the town will put the holograms, which feature the town seal, on all beach cards. Currently, cards have the town seal printed on them as well as a bar code, though the town does not plan to scan the bar codes until next year. Beachgoers who try to enter Greenwich Point or Byram parks with counterfeit cards will also be in for a rude awakening next year.

"The town is embarking on a program where we'll be scanning all beach cards instead of a visual check," said Tom Greco, manager of business services operations for the parks department.

The town's introduction of added security layers to its beach cards comes as the police investigate an alleged counterfeiting caper involving the highly coveted passes, municipal parking stickers and marina permits.

Right now, much of what investigators have to go on in the case is a binder received in February from an anonymous tipster containing copies of the fake materials. It also identified the person allegedly running the operation, who police have said is a suspect and would not identify.

The alleged suspect in the case also has declined, through his attorney, to be interviewed by police, police have said.

Park officials said they were planning the measures before the scheme came to light.

"I want to reduce the risk of falsifying cards,"...Blah...Blah....Blah....Blah...

Here's how it works In Greenwich:

High paid Government Officials make bad decisions that lead to very expensive failures.

The single family home owners are forced to pay for the expensive screw ups .

The Town of Greenwich spins those failed decisions, and the Greenwich press only types what failed Town Administrators spew out.

Then the reporters just put the town spew through a spell check and go home to listen to the World's Greatest Communication Hoax (WGCH) read the "spin clips" in the morning.

There is no accountability in Greenwich, because Greenwich reporters don't have the journalistic balls to ask Town Administrators hard hitting questions that expose the truth.

Greenwich reporters are afraid to do a simple Google search on the cost and ease of applying holograms on beach passes, because they would have to go back and ask some Town Administrators some real hard hitting questions.

It is much easier to run a Town Press Release through the spell check and then go home.

Warning:
Weak Reporting Can Be Outsourced To India

Indians speak English and can run press releases through a spell check.

Complete Greenwich RTM Meetings can now viewed by an Indian Reporter via the internet.

An Indian Reporter can make a free skype call to get a quote from the First Selectman, School Superintendent or any other public official listed on the Town Web Site.

Photo's can be emailed to India.

Weak local news reporting

can and has beeen

outsourced to India

Your city's news - from India

The job posting was a head-scratcher:

"We seek a newspaper journalist based in India to report on the city government and political scene of Pasadena, California, USA."

Outsourcing first claimed manufacturing jobs, then hit services such as technical support, airline reservations and tax preparation. Now comes the next frontier: local journalism. ...

Read The Full Story:

A news site hires two to cover Pasadena from afar. That helps a shoestring budget go further.

By Alex Pham

Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

May 11, 2007

When is local journalism not really local? When it's about Pasadena and written by someone in India. James Macpherson, editor and publisher of the Pasadena Now website, hired two reporters last weekend to cover the Pasadena City Council.

One lives in Mumbai and will be paid $12,000 a year. The other will work in Bangalore for $7,200. The council broadcasts its meetings on the Web. From nearly 9,000 miles away, the outsourced journalists plan to watch, then write their stories while their boss sleeps India is 12.5 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time. "A lot of the routine stuff we do can be done by really talented people in another time zone at much lower wages," said Macpherson, 51, who used to run a clothing business with manufacturing help from Vietnam and India.

So, on the Indian version of Craigslist, he posted an ad that said in part, "We do not believe that geographic distance between California and India will present unsurmountable problems, and that working together with you will result in your development of a keen working knowledge of this city's affairs." Dozens replied. One of the two chosen had attended the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Rob Gunnison, the director of school affairs there, is dismayed. "It just seems so fundamental to journalism to be there," Gunnison said. "I still can't quite believe it's not a hoax."

It's not. Macpherson plans to run his first batch of outsourced stories Tuesday. The Pasadena native runs the website, which he said gets 45,000 visitors a month, on a shoestring budget from his condo with help from his wife, a data entry worker and two interns. Macpherson plans to hire half a dozen more Indian reporters. He'll add some local flavor by doing interviews, then e-mailing the recordings to India. "When you instant-message someone in Mumbai, it's like looking over her shoulder," he said.

Larry Wilson, editor of the 30,000-circulation Pasadena Star-News newspaper, scoffed. "To pretend you can get the feel and the culture of a town as complicated and interesting as Pasadena by e-mailing and doing things over the Internet is nutty," he said.

AND NOW HERE IS THE PUNCH LINE

GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATOR'S LIKE THE IDEA OF OUTSOURCING REPORTING TO INDIA

Ann Erdman, spokeswoman for the city of Pasadena, thinks the approach is a little odd. But "as long as they get their facts correct, I'm a happy camper," she said.

If Greenwich Time Editor And Chief Joe Pisani Is Not Careful

He And His Crew May Find Themselve's On

The Unemployment Line While There Jobs Are Outsourced.
