Lt. Gov. Mike Fedele Proposes Four-Year Hiring And Spending Freezes, Capping State Employee Pensions (The Hartford Courant)
Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele called for deep cuts in spending Wednesday, including four-year hiring and spending freezes, merging state agencies, capping the lucrative pensions of state employees, and eliminating the current bonus payments for state employees.

A Greenwich Eastern Middle School teacher was arrested by Norwalk Police early Tuesday morning after allegedly ignoring repeated demands to leave her ex-boyfriend's apartment building and kicking an officer while being placed in the squad car.
Stacey Goodnow, 43, of 13 Melrose of Norwalk , was charged with assault on a peace officer, interfering with an officer and criminal trespass. She posted $10,000 bond and will appear in court March 26.
Goodnow's ex-boyfriend called police at 1:09 a.m. because she would not stop banging on the door of his Woodbury Avenue apartment, according to police. He told police that he would not let Goodnow into his house because he believed she was stalking him. He said he'd seen Goodnow in a South Norwalk bar earlier that night, and she was escorted out of the bar by security because she was drunk, according to police.
When police arrived, Goodnow was still pounding on her ex-boyfriend's door and saying that she just wanted to talk to him, police said. Goodnow was visibly intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol, police said. An officer advised her to leave the scene and told her that her ex-boyfriend did not want to talk to her, police said.
The officer told Goodnow that he could call her a cab or give her a ride home, but she decided to sit in the hallway near her boyfriend's apartment, according to police. Goodnow finally stood up and began to walk away, and police were able to make contact with her ex-boyfriend, according to police.
However, Goodnow spotted her ex-boyfriend when he stepped out of his apartment to speak with officers, police said. She pushed officers out of the way to try and get to him, police said. Goodnow was placed under arrest, and police had to carry her down the stairs to a patrol car because she refused to move, police said.
She started kicking inside of the patrol car, and she kicked Officer John Haggerty in the arm, according to police. She also swore at officers and had to be forced out of the patrol car when police arrived at headquarters, police said.
Police searched Goodnow's pockets and found a Greenwich Eastern Middle School teacher's ID card.
According to the school's Web site, Goodnow teaches social studies to sixth-graders.

Jen says .....
She is my daughters social studies teacher. This is very unexpected.
NORTH IDAHO says .....
Many years ago I worked my summers in the woods near a small 2 bar, one gas station town south of Mt Rainier in Washington State. Being single and of age many of my evenings were spent having a brew or two.
I noticed that there was a middle aged lady there every evening. She minded her own business drank and played the pinball machine every evening. After seeing this for a couple of weeks I asked one of the townies who she was. He told me "Oh that's Miss.------- She teaches 7th grade at the school, been here for 25 years, best teacher in the school!".
That was a case where she had a problem she managed it and everyone in town knew about it but she didn't let it cost her her job..
Lets hope Ms. Goodnow can do the same. I can't imagine her loosing her job remember the Lacrosse coach!!
Ezekiel says ....
Yeah, she was my social studies teacher in sixth grade, and i knew her outside of school. she really is a good person, and she must be having trouble.
NORTH IDAHO says .....
One more thing I ment to include above is that what they taught us in first grade about "the policeman is your friend" probably was pretty good advice!!
Former Res says ......
I agree, many people drink and manage to not let it affect their careers - I guess that's the trick. And a lot of folks manage to drink a lot fairly regularly and never act drunk. Another trick.
Hope all had a happy and safe St Paddy's Day!
