Police shouldn't be bad-mouthed over addresses

To the editor:

The members of the Greenwich Police Department put a tremendous amount of effort into maintaining the highest standards. We strive to be the best Police Department for our citizens, and make them proud of our community policing and investigative prowess.....

....I was disappointed in an article in the April 30 Greenwich Time titled "Cos Cob pushes for address change delay." In it, the writer quoted Jim Boutelle, Representative Town Meeting District 8 chairman. Mr. Boutelle said that he found it unfathomable that public safety officers and dispatchers don't know their way around town.

He was further quoted as saying,

"I think every cop in town knows where Dunkin' Donuts is."

This initiative did not start in the Police Department. Whereas it makes reasonable sense from the Police Department's view that sequential street numbers would be easier to locate than nonsequential numbers, I don't believe the police were the driving force behind it.

Furthermore, in response to Mr Boutelle's concern about personnel not knowing their way around Cos Cob, he must realize that we have civilian dispatchers now. Many of them probably never set foot in Cos Cob, and they send our officers based on citizen calls.......

.....That being said, the members of the Silver Shield Association will remain silent on the issue.

New York Fed Chairman's Ties to Goldman Raise Questions
Wall Street Journal

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York shaped Washington's response to the financial crisis late last year, which buoyed Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and other Wall Street firms. Goldman received speedy approval to become a bank holding company in September and a $10 billion capital injection soon after.

During that time, the New York Fed's chairman, Stephen Friedman, sat on Goldman's board and had a large holding in Goldman stock, which because of Goldman's new status as a bank holding company was a violation of Federal Reserve policy.

The New York Fed asked for a waiver, which, after about 2½ months, the Fed granted. While it was weighing the request, Mr. Friedman bought 37,300 more Goldman shares in December. They've since risen $1.7 million in value.

.... He left the White House in 2004 and later reinvested in Goldman shares, joining its board. He got involved in private-equity firm Stone Point Capital in Greenwich, Conn., where he is now chairman. In January 2008, he became a member of the New York Fed board and its chairman. In that role, he worked closely with Mr. Geithner. ...

I came across your Greenwich Roundup Blogspot this morning while checking on stories that may have run on my new company. My name is Deborah Burns and I am the founder of PR Synergy Plus. The way your blogspot reads it seems that Greenwich-based Jenifer Howard opened/started the new firm. The mother of Baby P, who is 27, was cleared of cruelty to the girl. The mother and her 32-year-old boyfriend, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were both convicted of causing or allowing the death of Baby P, who can now be named as Peter. The couple were tried at the Old Bailey under false names and the jury had no idea of their true identities or their connection to Baby P. The rape was discovered when the couple were investigated over Baby P's death.
