THE REV. JOEL WAYNE: Thieves who walk through the front door
Greenwich Time
....
Jesus tells a story about a shepherd and his flock in John 10:1-10. By speaking of sheep, a shepherd and a thief, Jesus teaches that many have chosen to follow the voice and instruction, not of the shepherd, but of the thief. They have allowed themselves to be deceived. They are no longer familiar with the voice of the shepherd. They have chosen to listen to strangers, wolves dressed as sheep, desiring to use them out of selfish motives. We have chosen to read from the wrong menu out of a shallow desire to appease the thieves.

John 10:9-10 reads, "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

The fulfillment we experience is established in the one whom we choose to follow. Our society is thirsty, and we are choosing to follow a path that will never lead us to water. We have allowed ourselves to listen to the voices of thieves, those who have their own agenda in mind, not our best interest. This is about God and his son, Jesus Christ. We are searching for water in a desert, always coming up dry. The frightening aspect is that we have begun inviting some of the thieves through our front door.

Do you know what you want from life? Do you recognize the voice of Jesus?....
