Marconi Pulls A 180 On Lamont: He Is Still Going To Officially Be A Candidate

Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi will announce his candidacy for governor today, a reliable source close to his campaign said.

Mr. Marconi’s exploratory committee sent out an e-mail media advisory Monday morning, stating that the first selectman would be making an announcement regarding his campaign later this afternoon in Hartford, before the Jefferson-Jackson-Bailey Dinner.

He plans to make the announcement outside the Hartford Convention Center at 4:30 p.m.

“There is buzz that he is getting out, but he is getting in,” the source said. “He is going to announce his candidacy tonight.”

Mr. Marconi formed a committee to explore running for governor last October.

Other announced Democratic candidates include Ned Lamont of Greenwich and former Stamford mayor Dannel Malloy.

Mr. Marconi will need to gain delegate support at next month's Democratic State Convention. Any candidate who gains support of 15 percent of the delegates earns a spot in the primary. The gubernatorial Democratic primary is scheduled for August 10.
