04/08/10 Those Were The Days: Bernie Yudain worked at the New Caanan Advertiser and was paid the princely sum of five cents a column inch

Photo: Mr. Yudain began his journalism career in the middle 1930s writing a New Canaan High School news column for the late John E. Hersam, founder and publisher of the Advertiser. In later years he railed against the editor of that paper, Lew Rowand, for editing his prose.



Newspaperman leaves legacy, memorial is today

Bernard Yudain, a veteran newsman of many hats and Greenwich mainstay who cut his teeth in journalism at the Post’s sister paper, the New Canaan Advertiser, died April 3. He was 91. A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, Greenwich, 254 E. Putnam Ave., for all friends and family, with a reception following at Indian Harbor Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Family Centers of Greenwich.
