Book Review - Michael Dirda, The Washington Post "Renée Michel is the dumpy, nondescript, 54-year-old concierge of a small and exclusive Paris apartment building... Paloma Josse also lives in the building. Acutely intelligent, introspective and philosophical, this 12-year-old views the world as absurd and records her observations about it in her journal... These two characters provide the double narrative of The Elegance of the Hedgehog, and you will -- this is going to sound corny -- fall in love with both..."

"Tender and satirical in its overall tone, yet most absorbing because of its reflections on the nature of beauty and art, the meaning of life and death... The intelligent Muriel Barbery has served readers well by giving us the gently satirical, exceptionally winning and inevitably bittersweet Elegance of the Hedgehog."

Muriel Barbery was born in Casablanca, raised in France, and lives in Japan with her husband Stéphane. Her novel
The Elegance of the Hedgehog was in second spot on the 2009 IndieBound bestseller list and 13th on the New York Times bestseller list, and a bestseller in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, South Korea and many other countries.

ANNA QUINDLEN
EVERY LAST ONE: A NOVEL
Anna Quindlen Every Last One
Greenwich Library
101 W. Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT
Free and Open to the Public

The Greenwich Library and Just Books are thrilled to welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author Anna Quindlen to the Greenwich Library as she introduces her new novel, Every Last One (Random House, April 13, 2010, $26).

In her newest novel, Anna Quindlen creates an unforgettable portrait of a mother, father, a family, and the explosive, violent consequences of what seem like inconsequential actions. Every Last One is a novel about facing every last one of the things we fear most, about finding ways to navigate a road we never intended to travel, to live a life we never dreamed we'd have to live but must be brave enough to try.

Quindlen is the author of five bestselling novels: Rise and Shine, Blessings, Object Lessons, One True Thing, Black and Blue; and six nonfiction books: Being Perfect, Loud & Clear, A Short Guide to a Happy Life, Living Out Loud, Thinking Out Loud, and How Reading Changed My Life. She has also written two children's books: The Tree That Came to Stay and Happily Ever After. Her New York Times column "Public and Private" won the Pulitzer Prize in 1992.
