School district will add Riverside, Old Greenwich bus stops in wake of outcry
School officials plan to add a bus stop to the district's routes this school year, after some Riverside parents complained that proposed changes to the routes would endanger their children walking to school.

At a Board of Education meeting Thursday night, Superintendent of Schools Sidney Freund announced that a stop will be added at Lancer Road and Sound Beach Avenue Extension to what the district calls Bus Route 4 during the 2009-10 school year. That bus stop was eliminated under the proposed changes in school bus services.......

......The public works and police departments are conducting studies to assess the pedestrian safety conditions along the routes where service is eliminated under the proposed changes, school officials announced at the meeting..

Additionally, the district will hire a traffic consultant to assess middle school pedestrian crossing routes to schools within the 1.5-mile radius. The results of these studies will be used to develop a plan for bus routes and stops during the 2010-11 school year......
