03/06/09 Greenwich Police Department Will Soon Be Able To Use Encrypted Radios

Police officials are launching a series of tests on a new digital radio system, hoping to have the upgraded network up and running by the end of the month.

Currently, police, fire and GEMS operate on an outdated analog radio network, but the town has been working to update the system for the past several years, officials said.

Lt. Mark Kordick, who is managing the digital conversion project, said the police department has been outfitted with digital Motorola portable and vehicle radios, which they are planning to test this week in order to train officers and troubleshoot the network......
