STAMFORD - Brian Kelly had just about finished his cardiovascular workout on a rowing machine Monday evening when a man collapsed on a treadmill nearby.
At first, it seemed like a routine accident, Kelly said. A regular at the gym, LA Fitness on Sixth Street, he has seen people fall off treadmills before.
"I'm a klutz," he said. "I've done it. That's why I don't get on them."
Kelly approached the man and saw he was unresponsive, his eyes rolled back in his head. A volunteer firefighter in Greenwich and a trained medical response technician, Kelly directed what happened next.
He asked one gym employee to call 911 as another shocked the man with a defibrillator before Kelly and a fellow gym-goer administered CPR. .....
Minutes later, the man was breathing again, Kelly said.....
