Could the Greenwich real estate market change depending on who the nation chooses when it goes to vote on Nov. 4?


With the economy in a state of flux, to put it mildly, and a tight presidential race a little less than six weeks away from reaching its conclusion, the Greenwich market could well see a swing after either Democrat Sen. Barack Obama or Republican Sen. John McCain raise their hands in victory the first Tuesday in November.


In a market where worries about the future are impacting both buyers and sellers, Greenwich Realtors are hoping that once the country’s course is chosen, people will be heading out with more confidence......



While praising the town for its “progressive commitment to employment safety” and holding it up as a model for other communities to emulate, the Connecticut Interlocal Risk Management Agency (CIRMA) honored Greenwich last month at its Risk Control Achievement Awards ceremony.....




Tennis For Tots will begin indoors at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Mondays starting Oct. 27 for six weeks.


The program for children ages 3- and 4-years-old will run from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m., or 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. The 5-, 6- and 7-year-old program will be from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. or 5:15 to 6 p.m.....



Wendell L. Bishop

Wendell L. Bishop, 90, died at his home in Old Greenwich Sept. 24, surrounded by his family.


Born in New Canaan to Stephen Bishop and Mary Weed Oct. 11, 1917, Mr. Bishop was raised and attended school in Stamford.


A World War II veteran of United States Army Tank Destroyer Battalions 899 and 805, Mr. Bishop served in North Africa, Italy and Austria and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart during his four years in service.


Upon his return from the war, he established the Wendell L. Bishop Agency, selling real estate and insurance for many years. He served two terms as president of the Stamford Board of Realtors. Later in life, he had a second career as a real estate appraiser.


Mr. Bishop had a great love of travel, family members said. He, his wife and children traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico in their Airstream trailer. They added that the family enjoyed many trips to Europe, as well as five trips around the world on their favorite ship, the QE2.


Mr. Bishop, family members said, loved gardening, skiing, camping, hiking, and sailing, and was a member of the Circumnavigators Club and the Old Greenwich Yacht Club.


He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Faith Mead Bishop; a son, Stephen L. Bishop; a daughter, Mary B. Kingery; a granddaughter, Sophy Mead Bishop; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Rose Bishop; and a son-in-law, Jay Kingery.


Mr. Bishop was predeceased by his brother, Hugh Bishop, and sisters, Adelaide Jorgensen, Margaret Williams and Jeannette Kirk.


Services for Mr. Bishop will be private.
