The Westchester County police helicopter flew above some Connecticut woods last night to assist Greenwich police looking for a 73-year-old woman.

Authorities were searching for Rosa C. Packard of Greenwich, who was reported missing by her family Wednesday. Also used in the search were police dogs near the Glenville section of Greenwich, but Packard was not found, police said.

The search continues," Greenwich police Sgt. Jeffrey Moran said.

The Westchester chopper was used because it is equipped with heat-seeking devices that would help locate people in the woods, authorities said. Greenwich police believed Packard may have been in the area after receiving a phone tip from someone who claimed to have spotted the woman.

"We thought we had some good leads," Sgt. Mark Zuccerella said.

Packard was last seen at 10 a.m. withdrawing money from a bank in the Glenville area, Zuccerella said.

She is described as a 5-foot-6, 200-pound white woman with hazel eyes and white hair. She drives a black, four-door 2005 Toyota Prius with Connecticut license plate 784-WOX.

In addition to assisting emergency workers at accidents, crime scenes and police pursuits, the Westchester County chopper will survey the county's sensitive areas, including the Indian Point nuclear power plants, the Hudson River and the Tappan Zee Bridge.

The new aircraft will be a multi-purpose aircraft capable of rescue, personnel insertion and extraction and firefighting missions. It will also be equipped with microwave downlink capabilities, thermal imaging and night vision equipment, and a Nightsun searchlight. Westchester County's current helicopter is a 1967 model, obtained for free as military surplus.

Comment:

Detective Mark Zuccerella please get Ms. Packard's picture and information to all three Greenwich Newspapers so that they can put the information up on the internet.

Also please get Ms. Packards photo and information up on the Greenwich Police Department's missing person's web page.

Ms. Packard's family is disparate for leads about their loved one.

Perhaps, Greenwich Time Crime Reporter Martin Cassidy should try and reach former Greenwich Time Reporter, Hoa Nguyen, who now works at hnguyen7@lohud.com so that he could get updated on the search for Rosa Packard.

Hoa Nguyen seems to have better law enforcement contacts than Greenwich Time Crime Reporter Martin Cassidy.

Martin if you want Hoa's phone number at the Journal News it is 914-696-8570.
