Maple tree saved

Arbor Day is celebrated in April, but a group of Havemeyer Park residents has a special tree to fete in mid-August.
After fighting to save a silver maple on town property in front of a residence at 38 North Ridge Road from being cut down, the group got word Tuesday from town Tree Warden Bruce Spaman that their beloved maple is staying.
"We're going to save the tree," said Spaman, who held a public hearing last Thursday to discuss a request by the owner of the abutting property to have the town cut down the tree.
Despite the homeowner's contention that the silver maple posed a danger to his family's safety because its limbs jut over his house, Spaman said he saw no signs of significant defects that would cause the tree to fall....
