New summer softball league

Registration for the Department of Parks and Recreation’s new girls summer softball program is currently underway.

The program will be divided into two teams of players who will be rotated each game, which will be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The program is open to participants nine through 11 years old. Participants must be nine years old on or before July 31 and must not be 12 by that same date.

Police Watch

The following are released arrests of July 1:

FORGERY

A 17-year-old Bridgeport girl was arrested June 27 and charged with third degree forgery and criminal attempt at larceny. Police had been sent to the Greenwich Bank and Trust on the report of check fraud. The assistant branch manager told officers that the girl had attempted to cash a $7,700 check that the bank suspected had been forged. The manager said the bank contacted the account holder who confirmed that he had not authorized the check. When confronted the girl told police she found the check in Bridgeport and had forged all the information on it. She was held in lieu of a $5,000 cash bond and is due in court July 2.

TROVER

Christian Romero, 21, of West Hurley, N.Y. was arrested June 29 and charged with using a car without permission and second degree criminal trover. Police responded to a call from a woman who said her friend took her car without permission and returned it with extensive damage. While checking the area of the Merritt Parkway at Round Hill Road for an unrelated matter, police discovered damage to the metal guardrail on the western shoulder of Round Hill Road and a license plate matching that the woman’s. Police found Romero at a Greenwich home. He was also cited for evading responsibility, unsafe movement and operating a motor vehicle without a license. Romero was released on a $1,000 cash bond and is due in court July 2.
