Authorities too trusting with man who fled
06/28/2008
To the editor:
Although I do not claim to know the legal system, I find it amazing that a man convicted of securities fraud and given a 20-year prison term can drive himself to prison.
Is it a way for the federal prison system to save on gasoline or security guards?
I personally find it ridiculous that this convicted prisoner, Samuel Israel, who stole millions of dollars, was thought to be honest enough to drive himself to prison. Now thousands of dollars will be spent and hours of manpower wasted trying to find out where he went (news story, June 17).
