04/09/08 - The Garden Education Center Gives the Gift of Spring!

Free Talk on Flowering Shrubs

by Bill Cary

The Garden Education Center of Greenwich is hosting two free events this month.

Here’s email from Meg McAuley Kaicher, VP Communications, Exec. Board at the Garden Education Center of Greenwich:

“GEC Gives the Gift of Spring!

“On Tuesday morning, April 15th at 10:30, horticultural expert Duncan Himmelman shares professional secrets for adding structural beauty to the landscape with flowering shrubs. The Garden Education Center of Greenwich is able to bring this prized lecture at no cost to the community through a generous legacy gift as part of its Mary C. Raymond Lecture Series

“Himmelman, regarded as a masterful designer with a keen eye for color, will impart ways in which bold swathes of color can be integrated sensibly by choosing the correct varieties of late winter and spring flowering shrubs amenable to your particular site conditions. Duncan Himmelman holds a Ph.D. in Ornamental Horticulture from Cornell and has over 20 years experience in practicing and teaching horticulture.

“On Saturday morning, April 19th at 10:30, GEC Director of Horticulture Lisa Beebe Schmidt will lead a fascinating stroll along the recently planted 50th Anniversary Wildflower Trail. Located in the Montgomery Pinetum, Beebe will identify perennials native to our woodland as well as investigate other forest treasures. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes for your extraordinary tour of this rich Greenwich resource.

Tickets are complimentary for GEC members and non-members alike. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling the GEC at 869-9242, Ext. 3, or visiting www.gecgreenwich.org. The Garden Education Center is located at 130 Bible Street in Cos Cob.

Take advantage of this expertise and see your landscape blossom!”
