The Number of power outages in Greenwich is actually slightly up over the past two hours.

Now 4,144 are in the cold -- That's 14 percent of town customers.

And the number of statewide power outages slowly starting to recede.

CL&P now reporting 772,155.

First Selectman Peter J. Tesei participated in a statewide conference hosted call hosted by the

Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30,

2011 for all municipal CEOs, Service Chiefs, Public Works Directors and Emergency

Management Directors. The purpose of the call was to update communities regarding the

statewide effort to mitigate the damages of the powerful winter storm that hit Connecticut

yesterday.

The State of Emergency that the Governor declared on Saturday is still in effect.

There are currently approximately 4,023 Connecticut Light and Power customers in the Town of

Greenwich without electrical service, down from approximate 4,900 at 12:00 p.m. There are over

779,561 customers without power throughout the State. At this moment, more people are out of

power Statewide than after Irene hit in August.

There is no current restoration schedule. Connecticut Light and Power are assessing the current

scope of damages.

Their automated phone and online systems can process your report and help them speed

Connecticut Light and Power has deployed 6 line crews and 2 tree crews to address the

widespread damage to Greenwich residences. These crews work on 16 hour schedules. Today they

worked to restore power to residents throughout Town. Tomorrow these crews will continue the

work of power restoration throughout Greenwich.

The Town of Greenwich deployed its tree crews throughout the night last night. As a result, most

roads are passable. There is one (1) impassible road currently in Town - Cameron Drive at North

Stanwich Road. This will be cleared before the morning commute.

The Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center at 449 Pemberwick Road will be open for

residents from 9:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. tomorrow. Here, residents can charge their electronic

communication devices and find water and snacks. Additionally, the Greenwich Main Library will

be open today from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the Byram and Cos Cob branches also operating

during normally scheduled hours.

Remember that if you are using a vehicle or a generator to charge electronic devices, please use

these outside. These devices should not be indoors. Having your garage door open is not

sufficiently safe. Carbon monoxide is odorless, tasteless and deadly.

All down wires should be considered “live” and lethal.

At this time, there is a 90 minute delay for Greenwich Public Schools. Parents and guardians

should monitor the Board of Education for up-to-the-moment school opening and closing

information at www.greenwichschools.org

October Snowstorm Update from Temple Sholom October 30th, 2011 Dear Friends: As we were able to provide a community gathering place during the hurricane, Temple Sholom is pleased to report that our building will be open Monday morning at 8:30am, to offer a gathering place for all those without power in our community. 10/30/11 John Blankley's 4 point plan for storm management

John is out in Old Greenwich today with Former Secretary of State
Susan Bysiewicz surveying the damage from the storm and talking to
residents. This is John's second plan in a series of proposals to move
Greenwich forward. On Friday he released his suggestions on how to
improve the schools. We will be issuing more proposals over the next
week.

Here is his 4 point action plan.

1. Get a whole lot tougher with CL &P. They have one of the highest
ROE's, at 10%, of utilities, thanks to their rate structure and yet
have not invested in new equipment and have cut back on their work
force.

2. We need to get proactive in terms of starting the discussion with
C L & P , and regulators to develop a long term plan to bury the
lines. It will start with arterial roads and hotspots. Other
communities have started this, we should begin the process of looking
into this issue.

3. Communication: The website says crews are working diligently and
I'm sure they are. This is not a criticism of them. But how many crews
do we have? How many crews does CL &P have? The robocall yesterday
said power would be restored as soon as possible but made no estimate.
What areas first etc. The town's emergency call number says "no
emergency messages" at this time. It would help to know what streets
are blocked because of trees or downed power lines.

4. We need to look into the way pruning trees are handled and be more
proactive about it. We are very reactive when it comes to preparing
for storms as seen in this time and also in March 2010 and for
Hurricane Irene.

10/30/11 John Blankley's 5 point plan to improve schools

Here is my "Five Point Plan" for getting our public schools back on track. I am going to be proactive as First Selectman and that means bringing ideas to the table for action. My real objective however is for the BOE to come up with their ideas that then get presented to me and the BET, rather than the current procedure whereby the BET tells the BOE that it will be "same as last year and level services" – i.e. no new initiatives. How not to run our public schools! If any of my ideas or none are presented by the BOE is not the point: it is that the BOE should be encouraged to be proactive and to tell us how they are going to get the schools back on track. My list is intended to get the ball rolling.

1. Restore funding for the ALP program

2. Expand the pre-K program beyond the 150 seats currently available

3. Reinstate funding for AP and PSAT exams

4. Explore class size reductions in the early school grades

5. Address the chronic shortage of math and science teachers at GHS

Good afternoon this is Greenwich Emergency Management Director Dan Warzoha updating you on Greenwich's storm status and operations. There are approximately 4,978 CL&P customers in the Town Of Greenwich without power. Down from 5,421 at 1:00 AM . There are 804,000 CL&P customers without power in the State Of Connecticut. The Statewide total exceeds the number of customers out during Hurricane Irene in August. CL&P has deployed 6 line crews and 2 tree crews to address damage and restoration. These crews work on 16 hour schedules. The Town Of Greenwich deployed its tree crews throughout last evening and most roads are passable. A list of locations can be found on our website www.greenwichct.org The Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center is open for residents from noon today today until 8PM this evening. The Center provides charging stations for eletronic devices along with water and light snacks. Greenwich Library is also open from 1 Pm until 5 Pm today. All downed wires should be considered Live and lethal and reported by calling 911. Parents should keep this in mind especially in light of Halloween trick or treating that will be taking place. At this time there are no planned public school closures or delays.
