04/12/08 - Greenwich Spotlight: Greenwich School District's Facilities Director Anthony "Tony Two Face" Byrne And The Ham Ave School Coverup (Updated)

Is Tony "Two Face" Byrne A Hippo - Crite

Tony "Two Face" Byrne had no public comments or complaints when the Greenwich Public Schools removed contaminated ceiling tiles over one year ago.

Please see:

Tony "Two Face" Byrne had no public complaints about having the teamsters filling up dumpsters with contaminated construction debri as Hamilton Avenue School parents were preparing to protest in front of the school administration building.

Tony "Two Face" Byrne had no public complaints about Greenwich School District hygienist Charles Schwarts testing where ever he wanted.

03/14/08 - Sternberg Received A Report On Air Quality Of The Modular Classrooms That Showed A Higher Level Of Mold Spores Than Previosly Released

But...

Tony "Two Face" Byrne really started complaining when the supposedly "independent" Navigant Consulting was hired by the Greenwich Public School System/

Please see:

04/03/08 - Independent? - Word Is That Fairfield Based Architect John Brice Recommended Navigant Consulting, formerly known as The Metzler Group

Just look at the fear uncertainty and doubt that Greenwich Schools Facilities Director, Tony "Two Face" Byrne is spreading as he complains about Navigant Consulting taking a look at the contaminated Hamilton Avenue School Modular Classrooms....

Anthony Byrne, the district's facilities director, warned the costs may escalate because as the firm investigates the building, their work may help spread the mold spores inside the classrooms. He said once that happens, the district will have a harder time cleaning mold spores from the classrooms if it ever decides to reuse the modular building.

But things only got worse when the Hamilton Avenue School parents wanted to independently test to see what had happened to their children.

The word around Greenwich is that Tony "Two Face" Byrne has been working over time putting up road blocks designed to scuttle the agreed upon tests.

Parents' expert to run mold tests

04/06/2008 - Greenwich Time

Reversing a decision that earned them much criticism, school officials have agreed to allow a parent-hired expert to run environmental tests on the Hamilton Avenue School modular buildings.

The Board of Education, which has hired its own environmental hygienist, recently told Hamilton Avenue School parents that their own expert would be allowed to run tests in the modular building. But their hygienist will be restricted to certain areas, a condition that does not sit well with some parents.

"If they are going to limit our tester to places that we need to have tested, we have a concern with that," said Laura DiBella, a Hamilton Avenue School parent who had lobbied for an independently hired expert to perform the tests. "Our tester should be allowed to test where their tester tested."

Leslie Moriarty, a Board of Education member, said that disturbing mold-infested areas, such as in the roof eaves or inside the walls, in order to perform tests could help to spread the mold. Officials don't want the mold spores to spread to other parts of the modular building because they want to leave open the possibility of remediating the situation and reusing the structure.

"The concern is that when you open the wall and disturb the space, it comes into the building," Moriarty said. "An option is to reuse the building and so we don't want to make that job more difficult."

Wow.

Let's all stand up and applaud the almost amazing and semi-incredible Tony "Two Face" Byrne for giving the Greenwich Board Of Education a way to use smoke and mirror tactics to cover up school administration screw ups and make the Hamilton Avenue Parents look like a bunch of unreasonably hysterical banshees.

The real sad part of the story is that the fourth estate of Greenwich doesn't have the Journalistic balls to ask...

"Why was it OK for school employees, architects, engineers and enviromental tesers to have a peek behind the walls at the Hamilton Avenue School, but it is NOT OK for the parents of the affected children to get a look see?"

Please See:

"We think the whole building is loaded with mold," Laura DiBella said

Quote#2:

"I really do think we tried really hard to reach an agreement and we've reached an impasse that we're not going to get past," said Leslie "I Am Full Of Crap" Moriarty, a Board of Education member who has been negotiating with parents.

Mold dispute reaches impasse

Story:

School officials are at an impasse with a group of Hamilton Avenue School parents who want their environmental expert to run a new battery of tests on the mold-infested modular building.

Both sides have been deep in negotiation about how this additional round of testing will be carried out, but talks broke down earlier this week....

...A group of parents were expected to meet last night to discuss their options, which for the moment look grim because the negotiation has been called off, said Laura DiBella, a Hamilton Avenue parent. DiBella lobbied to have a parent-hired expert run a new round of tests because they fear the mold contamination may be worse than what the Board of Education has told parents...

...Tensions have been running high since late Feburary when the modular was evacuated because of mold. Although the town and an environmental expert hired by the Board of Education said tests show the mold was not hazardous to human health, a group of parents want to run their own tests on the modular. After an emotional plea from parents, education officials relented, but....

...DiBella said parents are willing to pay for the testing but that the remediation costs may be unreasonable.

"You're talking about the poorest parents in the district," she said.

School officials may have to remediate the entire modular building or possibly demolish it anyway, DiBella said.

Please see:

04/06/08 - "My son was in the hardest hit classroom," Laura DiBella said. "I want to find out what they found in there."

It is time for Betty "You Can Trust Me" Sternberg, Leslie "I Am Full Of Crap" Moriarty and Tony "Two Face Byrne To Let The Parents Independently Test The Contaminated Hamilton Avenue Modular Classrooms.

04/11/08 - The Greenwich Police Blotter

Police Watch: The following reports were released April 10

IDENTITY THEFT

Frank Chimblo, 35, of 13-2 Harold St., Cos Cob, was arrested April 8 and charged with first degree identity theft, conspiracy to commit first degree larceny and fourth degree larceny. Police said Chimblo had been appearing at Stamford Superior Court on an unrelated matter when he was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant. Chimblo had allegedly been found in possession of another person’s identification during a previous police search. Chimblo was turned over to the state marshal’s office for action.

LARCENY

Elmsford, N.Y., resident Tina Hummel, 35, was arrested April 8 and charged with sixth degree larceny, second degree forgery and attempting to obtain medication with a forged prescription. Hummel was taken into custody from the Westchester Correctional Facility in Valhalla, N.Y., after she waived extradition on a Greenwich warrant stemming from an Oct. 29 incident. At that time, Hummel had allegedly entered the Riverside Walgreens Pharmacy with a forged prescription and, during the transaction, grabbed the medication from the counter and left the store without paying for it. Hummel was released on a $500 cash bond and is due in court April 16.

DUI

Julia Jones, 61, of 8 Tomac Ave., Old Greenwich, was arrested April 9 and charged with driving under the influence. Police had been on patrol when Jones was reportedly seen driving through a red light and making a left turn onto Bruce Park Avenue. Police said when an officer pulled her car over, she smelled of alcohol and had red, glassy eyes and slurred speech. Police asked Jones to go through field sobriety tests but police said she didn’t understand what she was being asked despite being told several times. Her refusal was documented as a lack of cooperation. She was also charged with failure to obey a red light. Jones was held in lieu of a $250 cash bond and is due in court April 24.

By Martin B. Cassidy / Greenwich Time Staff Writer

...
Also yesterday, the Board of Selectmen unanimously gave preliminary approval to a Board of Education request to use the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center as a possible place to move Glenville School students during a two-year renovation of the school.

In the wake of mold problems in modular classrooms at Hamilton Avenue School, currently under construction, education officials consider the civic center perhaps the best option for relocating part of the Glenville student body, BOE Chairman Nancy Weissler told the board. "
We're looking at all the options," Weissler said.

Siegrun Pottgen, a Glenville resident, said despite sympathizing with Glenville parents who want children kept close by, it seemed unfair that the of Education could take over the civic center without any consideration of the community's other needs.

Many adults benefit from the center's adult education and exercise programs and classes, Pottgen said. "The Board of Education just goes out nonchalantly and says this is what we want," Pottgen said. "Well, we have our own ideas about using the center and you don't even give us a voice."....

Recruit pursues dream of becoming a Marine

Quote:

"They tell you that you can bring an address book, $20, a driver's license and the clothes on your back," Scott Nastahowski said while sitting outside his Greenwich home.

Story:

Scott Nastahowski Jr. will be traveling light when he journeys to Parris Island, S.C., in less than two weeks...

...
He is hoping to become a mechanic or combat specialist, but he is keeping his options open.

"I like working with my hands," he said. "I don't want to sit behind a desk. I want to be out there in the field.

"I have a lot of energy and I want to channel that," he added, noting that he chose the Marines because he believed it to be the most challenging of all the military organizations.

As to the physical demands of training, Nastahowski said he has been staying fit by working with a personal trainer and keeping up with an exercise schedule, in between his part-time jobs....

...Nastahowski began his quest to enter the U.S. Marine Corps with a phone call in January to the local recruiter.

Sgt. Christian Mejia, U.S. Marines recruiter for the Greenwich and Stamford area, recalled his first visit to the Nastahowski home on Pilgrim Drive.

"I talked about the different options and possibilities," Mejia said. "I gave him the information and he made the decision."...

..."I think it is a great opportunity for a kid who is not furthering his education with college. The next best thing is military service," said Scott Nastahowski Sr., a Greenwich native who runs a carpet cleaning business in town. He said his respect for the Marine Corps is second to none.

"I'm happy for him," he said. "Thank God kids like him want to go in."

He said he realizes there is always the potential for danger, but he thinks having the Marine Corps in his son's background will help him with whatever he decides to do.

Nastahowski's mother, Colleen, noted that while there will always be some concern, she is "glad he is doing it."

The aspiring Marine said he is nervous about the first few weeks of training, but he remains excited about embarking on something different. "I want to travel," he said. "I want to see the world."

As to what he thinks this experience will give him, he said he believes it will further his sense of commitment and will give him a sense of pride. "I think it teaches you to feel better about yourself."

At the end of all the training, when he officially becomes a Marine, he said he will be required to serve four years of active duty, and then four years in the reserves. He also can choose to continue in the Marines.

When asked if his younger siblings, Shane and Courtney, understand what he is doing, he said: "They tell their friends that I am a Marine, but I am not one, yet."

Selectmen give OK to using civic center for Glenville kids

The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved municipal improvement (MI) status for the conversion of the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center into the temporary home for displaced Glenville School students, moving the project a step.

By granting the MI, which is for projects that involve redesigning a town property, the project can now go before the Planning and Zoning Commission. The commission will have 90 days to consider the project and, if it isn’t brought before the commission, it will be automatically approved. The town owns the civic center and if the project approvals are granted by town board, ownership will be temporarily transferred to the school board until the project is completed, at which time ownership will be transferred back to the town.

First Selectman Peter Tesei, a longtime supporter of renovating the civic center, which was finally completed last year, called the situation with the Glenville students “an emergency.” The students had been scheduled to move into modular classrooms so the renovation of their building, which has been called educationally unsound by district officials, could begin, but the discovery of mold in late February put that plan into chaos.

“When we have a population of school students that do not have a permanent facility to be educated in, I believe the town is in an emergency situation,” Mr. Tesei said. “Through my office I’ve worked diligently with the Board of Education to avail all resources the town has to in its inventory and the simple fact is that there is only one building that could potentially serve the partial needs of a school.”

Mr. Tesei has worked with several town departments, particularly land use agencies, to assess what had to be done to make the civic center into a viable option. He added that granting the MI status is “only one step in a long process” and plans still have to be developed and approved.

Renovation on Glenville School’s building is scheduled to begin this July and, if approved, the civic center would be the home for the displaced students for an anticipated 18 months to two years. However, the renovation could be delayed if its determined the construction on the new Hamilton Avenue School won’t be complete before the start of school on Aug. 27.

Board of Education Chairwoman Nancy Weissler told the selectmen that if that happened, a possible solution would be to put the Hamilton Avenue students into the civic center and then move in the Glenville students once the new school was ready. Ms. Weissler stressed several times, though, that the option was “very unlikely” because the board expects the Hamilton Avenue construction would be complete.

Remediating the modulars for the Glenville students remains an option. The school board is set to hold a work session on the options tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Havemeyer Building. A vote on an option is expected at the board’s April 24 meeting.

Mr. Tesei asked for and received assurances from Ms. Weissler and Assistant Superintendent of Schools Susan Wallerstein that the board did not view the civic center as permanent swing space for the district that could be used whenever needed.....

04/09/08 - Byram Police Officers Show An LA Gang Member Who's The Boss (Updated)

Greenwich Police this afternoon chased an unidentified suspect across the Mill Street bridge into Port Chester, N.Y. where police are holding him for an assault in which he allegedly beat another youth in downtown Byram.

Greenwich Police released few details of the incident, which is still under investigation. Police Sgt. John Slusarz said the victim of the assault was transported to Greenwich Hospital for treatment for possible blunt force trauma....

....Greenwich Police responded to a 3:15 p.m. call on the reported assault on Mill Street and began searching for the assailant......

But There Is More...

The citizen's of Byram can rest a little easier, because of the aggressive police work of Byram officers.

Byram police officers chased the gang member who had just arrived from LA into the village of Port Chester.

The officers were forced to pull their guns on the assailant who was covered in gang tattoos. The gang member was carrying a sharpened screw driver when arrested. The improvised weapon reminded one of a prison shank.

How Do We Keep The Byram Gang Problem Out Of Greenwich High School?

It is time for the citizens of Greenwich to wake up and demand that our politician's bring the Greenwich Police Department up to full strength.

The extra police officer's need to be assigned to Byram to squash the gang and drug problems that are beginning to invade Greenwich High School via Byram.

The Byram police officer's want to put the drug houses on Pine, Spruce and Pemberwick Road out of business, but our political leaders have to give the police officers the resources they need to do the job.

If we give the Byram officer's the resources they will put an end to the organized gang and drug activity in Byram.

All Town Of Greenwich Departments need to start supporting the anti-gang work of the Greenwich Police Department.

Week after week the number of buildings with gang graffiti grows and grows. The Building Department needs to start going out and start aggressively ticketing buildings with gang graffiti.

There have been gang related shootings in Port Chester and that violence is going to come to Byram and Greenwich High School.

Our political leaders had better start giving police officer's all the resources they need to attack gang and drug activity in Byram.

On either side of the table were brothers, as if Wall Street had moved to Washington...
