Walworth was born March 28, 1924, in Springfield, Mass., to Helga Anderson and LeRoy A. Petersen. Prior to her family moving to Greenwich in 1940, she grew up in Pelham, N.Y. She graduated from Greenwich Academy in the class of 1942. She then attended Wells College and received a B.A. degree.
