10/14/11 Former Republican Selectman Says Peter Tesei's Experience Is Still Needed

To the editor:

Seldom do we have the opportunity to vote for someone as experienced and competent as Peter Tesei. He began his political career by running for the RTM at the age of 18, becoming the youngest member ever of that body. He then served 10 years on the BET, the final six years as its chairman, and was elected first selectman in 2007 with 68 percent of the vote.

Among his volunteer activities, he has served as a board member of the Greenwich chapters of United Way and the American Red Cross and currently serves on the boards of the Greenwich Council of Boy Scouts and the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra.

During his almost four years as our chief elected official, Peter has skillfully led us through difficult financial times. Tax increases have been modest while town services have been maintained and infrastructure improved. We are fortunate to have him as our first selectman, and he deserves another term.

This is not a knock on John Blankley, whom I respect and have known for almost 25 years. But now is not the time to "change horses" in Town Hall. Critical challenges lie before us, and we need Peter Tesei to meet them. Please join me in voting for him on November 8.
