07/19/10 Mark Henson Notes:100 Days Celebration

Dear Friends,

If you've been following the race for the Republican nomination in the 4th District this week, you've seen that all of our opponents will do just about anything to win. They're already distorting Jim's impressive record and are simultaneously attacking each other and the progress we've made these past two years. Soon, these vigorous assaults will turn fully toward Jim. We can't sit back idly and wait; we must do everything we can right now to make sure our Congressman goes back to Washington to keep working for us.

Because Jim and people like him are in Congress, comprehensive health care reform is now law, Wall Street reform is just a signature away, college is more accessible because of student loan reform, and the economy is starting to turn around as a result of job creation legislation and assistance to small businesses. In general, we're better off than when George W. Bush left office.

But you and I know the work is not done. Families are still struggling, workers are without jobs, and businesses aren't quite confident enough to hire workers or invest in their operations. We have yet to see the Senate take action on clean energy legislation, and we haven't even touched education. Education is one of the issues that Jim cares about most passionately and it is why he ran for Congress. No one recognizes the work ahead more than Jim Himes, and he's eager to roll up his sleeves, head back to Washington, and keep fighting for the progress we all believe in.

But Jim needs all of our help to do that. We've got a reelection battle on our hands, and we have to fight as hard for Jim as he's fought for us. This Saturday marks 100 Days from November 2, 2010 - 100 Days to Victory. The Countdown is on - now is the time to boost up our ground game.

Many of you have already started volunteering, but we need to increase our forces because the Republicans have put a target squarely on Jim's back. They will stop at nothing to put someone in Congress to turn back all the progress we have made and take us back to the time when Big Oil, credit card companies, and the special interests could do whatever they wanted to consumers without fear.

We can't go back to that time, and we can't lose the great public servant we have in Jim Himes. I know I'm going to work harder as each day passes to keep Jim serving us; for all our sakes, I hope you'll join me.

Our strong grassroots campaign has volunteer activities going on in every town this Saturday to mark the 100 Days until Victory - click here to see the list of 100 day events. Jim will be headlining the Fairfield DTC Grand Office Opening, kicking off our canvass in Shelton, dropping by block parties in Norwalk and Westport, and recruiting volunteers at a house party in Greenwich. Please sign up to participate and help spread Jim's message.

You don't have to wait until Saturday, though. Come into your local campaign office to volunteer... and maybe even bring a friend.

I hope you'll join the team and get involved. Click here to sign up to volunteer or just stop by our offices in Bridgeport or Stamford.

PS: Don't forget, Jim asked us last week to help restock summer food pantries. All our volunteer opportunities will have collection boxes. Even if you can't stay to volunteer, please come by to meet your fellow activists and drop off an item or two!
