TOPIX: Man charged with stalking Gayle King in attempt to reach Oprah faces trial

A Bronx, N.Y., man seeking to get his political expose' on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" now faces trial on charges that he stalked Winfrey's best friend and then-Greenwich resident Gayle King ......
....King, a longtime friend of Winfrey, is the editor at large of "O, The Oprah Magazine" and host of "The Gayle King Show" on Sirius/XM radio. "O, The Oprah Magazine" is owned by Hearst Corp., which also owns Greenwich Time.

Police said Hickson believed if he could reach King, he could eventually make contact with Winfrey.

Hickson has pleaded not guilty to both charges. Jury selection began this week in state Superior Court in Stamford. A trial date has not yet been set.....

....King's Richmond Hill Road home is owned by Overground Railroad LLC, a company affiliated with Winfrey, according to property records. The house was put on the market in 2008. It is not clear whether King still resides there......

....Hickson's attorney, public defender Howard Ehring, said that his client believes he did nothing criminal.

"My client maintains his innocence in terms of criminal trespass," Ehring said. "He had written a document that he felt was protected by freedom of speech and he wanted to get that document publicized." Ehring said he was not sure King is going to testify at trial.....

....In a jail interview with detectives, Hickson discussed his belief that there are governmental controls conspiring to create a housing crisis in New York City, according to police reports.

"He spoke intelligently on the New World Order and theCouncil for Foreign Relations," the report said. Hickson told police he believed "the widely popular Oprah Winfrey television show" would be a great avenue to help his mass media campaign, which Hickson wanted to put out prior to the November 2008 presidential election.....
