01/17/10 Drunken Eastern Middle School Teacher Battles With Police

A Greenwich Eastern Middle School teacher was arrested by Norwalk Police early Tuesday morning after allegedly ignoring repeated demands to leave her ex-boyfriend's apartment building and kicking an officer while being placed in the squad car.

Stacey Goodnow, 43, of 13 Melrose in Norwalk, was charged with assault on a peace officer, interfering with an officer and criminal trespass. She posted $10,000 bond and will appear in court March 26.

Ms. Goodnow's ex-boyfriend called police at 1:09 a.m. because she would not stop banging on the door of his Woodbury Avenue apartment, according to police.

He told police that he would not let Goodnow into his house because he believed she was stalking him. He said he'd seen Goodnow in a South Norwalk bar earlier that night, and she was escorted out of the bar by security because she was drunk, according to police.

When police arrived, Ms. Goodnow was still pounding on her ex-boyfriend's door and saying that she just wanted to talk to him, police said. Ms. Goodnow was visibly intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol, police said.

An officer advised her to leave the scene and told her that her ex-boyfriend did not want to talk to her, police said. The officer told Ms. Goodnow that he could call her a cab or give her a ride home, but she decided to sit in the hallway near her boyfriend's apartment, according to police. Ms. Goodnow finally stood up and began to walk away, and police were able to make contact with her ex-boyfriend, according to police.

However, Ms. Goodnow spotted her ex-boyfriend when he stepped out of his apartment to speak with officers, police said. She pushed officers out of the way to try and get to him, police said.

Ms. Goodnow was placed under arrest, and police had to carry her down the stairs to a patrol car because she refused to move, police said. She started kicking inside of the patrol car, and she kicked Officer John Haggerty in the arm, according to police. She also swore at officers and had to be forced out of the patrol car when police arrived at headquarters, police said. Police searched Goodnow's pockets and found a Greenwich Eastern Middle School teacher's ID card. According to the school's Web site, Goodnow teaches social studies to sixth-graders.

How dare you what? They're reporting a crime. It's just the facts. She should and will be held accountable for her actions, as she should. She should NOT be teaching Greenwich children, who are aware of this incident.

Isn't she back as a 6th grade teacher at Western? Why is she not banned from being a teacher?
