SUPERINTENDENT APPOINTS INTERIM ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
FOR COS COB SCHOOL
(For immediate release: Greenwich, CT – Wednesday, December 2, 2009) Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sidney A. Freund has appointed Ms. Lauren Showstead as the Interim Assistant Principal for Cos Cob School effective, November 2009. Ms. Showstead was most recently a District Special Education Coach working with teachers in the elementary schools and was previously a Special Education teacher at Parkway School for three years.
Ms. Showstead has worked with elementary and middle school aged students, primarily as a special education teacher since 1994. From 1994 to 1999 she taught in Massachusetts at The May Center in Braintree, the Weymouth School in Weymouth, and finally at the William Foster Elementary School in Hingham, before moving to Connecticut. In 1999, she began teaching at West Elementary School in New Canaan, CT and then moved to King’s Highway Elementary School in Westport in 2002
As a special education teacher in the elementary school setting, Ms. Showstead was responsible for creating and implementing Individual Education Plans for students, evaluating students through standardized testing to identify needs, participating on Planning and Placement Teams, and managing cases with multiple and various disabilities.
In 2006, Ms. Showstead came to the Greenwich Public Schools as a Special Education teacher at Parkway School. While at Parkway, she led the school’s Strategic Improvement Team, was a member of the Student Assistance Team (SAT) and co-led the process with the building’s Assistant Principal. In 2008, Ms. Showstead received the PTA Council Special Education Services (SES) Award for her exemplary work in support of students with special needs.
Ms. Showstead received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary and special education from the University of Vermont, Burlington, VT in 1994; and her Masters in elementary education from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, MA in 1998. She received her Administrative Certification in May 2009 from the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education, Storrs, CT.
