Anytime you vote for a first-term congressman, as I did for Jim Himes, you do it on some measure of blind faith. I liked what he had to say and I liked the fact that he was a champion of affordable housing in his hometown which was not a very popular position to take in Greenwich. But I also worried that he would wilt under the weight of political hand-to-hand combat which is, unfortunately, what the talk radio crowd has done to our national civil discourse. The chameleon Joe Lieberman represents the worst of an archetype of convenience. I defy anyone to tell me what Joe Lieberman stands for, if anything, other than his own political preservation. Therefore I was extremely heartened by Jim Himes’s performance, deportment and expressed opinions in front of the “town halls” last week in Fairfield County.

Jim Himes was a profile in courage last week. When in doubt, Jim, follow your own moral compass. It will serve you well as a congressman.
