First poor little ole Vermont had, a large part of one of the US nuclear power plant’s cooling towers collapsed. The collapse was put down to rotting wood in the tower’s construction. Further poor maintenance also led to a ‘reactor scram’ and shutdown in the same year.
Then problems continued for poor little ole Vermont. The reactor has just suffered its third leak of coolant in a year, the last being in July. Vermont wants permission to carry on for another 20 years while a Finance Committee has called for independent oversight of the plant.
Now poor little ole Vermont might be hit with one of the most radioactive school superintendents in America - Betty Sternberg.

MONTPELIER, Vt. - The field of candidates vying to become Vermont's education commissioner has been narrowed to three people, including Connecticut's former top school official.
Among the finalists is Betty Sternberg, former Connecticut education commissioner and now schools superintendent in Greenwich, Conn. The other two finalists are from Vermont: former Franklin West superintendent Armando Vilaseca and former deputy commissioner Brian O'Regan.
Former Commissioner Richard Cate, who resigned in June to take a job at the University of Vermont, earned $119,000 in the job.
Tom James, chair of the state Board of Education, said Friday that each candidate has been invited to meet with teachers, parents and business leaders at a Nov. 17 forum. The state hopes to hire someone by month's end.
