Greenwich Post Reporters Are A Sleep At The Switch
PRESS RELEASE
The Community Health Improvement Partnership is sponsoring two free screenings of the award-winning 2006 film Canvas in the Greenwich Library auditorium Monday, Nov. 17, and Tuesday, Nov. 18.
The Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) includes the following Greenwich institutions and agencies: the United Way, Department of Community Development, Commission on Aging, Housing Authority, Greenwich Library, Greenwich Hospital, Department of Social Services, Hispanic Health Council at St. Mary’s Parish, the Department of Health, and GEMS.
Academy award-winner Marcia Gay Harden and Emmy award-winner Joe Pantoliano star in this drama about one family’s battle with schizophrenia. The autobiographical film was written and directed by Joseph Greco and has received numerous film awards in addition to last year’s American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Public Education Award.
Newcomer Devon Gearhart plays the young son of Harden and Pantoliano, a working class South Florida couple whose lives unwind when Harden is diagnosed with schizophrenia. The adolescent Chris struggles to find his own identity while dealing with his mother’s debilitating illness.
CHIP was developed in 2003 following a local community health needs assessment. Its purpose is to facilitate health improvement by increasing communication among and between local health care providers.
Open discussions will follow the screenings. The Nov. 17 showing is at 6:30 p.m., check in at 6, and the Nov. 18 showing is at 9 a.m., check in at 8:30.

EXTORTION
Larcenio Brown, 37, of Norwalk was arrested Oct. 30 and charged with criminal attempt at first degree larceny by extortion and threatening. Brown was arrested by Greenwich detectives for allegedly attempting to extort money from an ex-girlfriend by threatening to commit arson on properties her family owns. Brown was released on a $5,000 surety bond and was due in court Oct. 31.

DUI
Mark Dushku, 27, of Stamford was arrested Oct. 31 and charged with driving under the influence. Police said they saw Dushku driving east in a westbound lane on West Putnam Avenue and pulled his car over. Officers said Dushku had slurred speech and red glassy eyes and failed field sobriety tests. A check with the state determined his driver’s license had expired. He was also cited for driving the wrong way, driving while under suspension and failure to turn in his license. Dushku was released on a $250 cash bond and was due in court Nov. 14.
POSSESSION
Richard Comeau, 18, of 17 Hendrie Ave., Old Greenwich was arrested Nov. 1 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of liquor by a minor. Police responded to a report of a car accident and while doing a vehicle inventory allegedly found a small amount of marijuana, a glass smoking pipe and alcohol within it. Comeau was released on a promise to appear and is due in court Nov. 10.
ASSAULT
Police arrested a 16-year-old Riverside girl, a 16-year-old Greenwich girl and a 17-year-old Greenwich girl Nov. 1 and charged them with breach of peace. Police responded to a report of a fight and determined two of the girls got into an argument on Railroad Avenue at the beginning of the night. When they met up later things had become physical, involving a third girl. The two 16-year-olds were also charged with third degree assault. They were all released on promises to appear and are due in court Nov. 12.
BREACH OF PEACE
A 22-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested Nov. 1 and charged with breach of peace. Police responded to a report of a fight. A woman told officers that her ex-boyfriend had arrived uninvited and intoxicated at her residence at 4:45 in the morning and began banging on her front door and window while yelling in a loud and angry voice. Police reports said that when a friend came to assist the woman, the man barged into the home and continued to yell. The man was held in lieu of a $1,500 cash bond and was due in court Nov. 3.
POSSESSION
Lucas Moura, 24, was arrested Nov. 1 and charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of a controlled substance. Police said they saw a car drive through a red light on West Putnam Avenue and pulled it over. Moura, the passenger, owned the car and after police reportedly saw evidence connected to drug use, he was asked if police could search his car. According to police, Moura consented to the search and got out of the car carrying a purse, which officers wanted to check for weapons. Police said the purse contained three prescription bottles without labels, containing a substance that later tested positive for cocaine. Police also said they found three small prescription bottles with a name other than Moura’s on it and bottles that had pills in them that later tested positive for ecstasy. Moura was released on a $2,500 cash bond and is due in court Nov. 8.
CAR THEFT
Steven Hechevarria of Stamford, 19, was arrested Nov. 2 and charged with third degree larceny, interferring with an officer, unsafe movement, traveling fast and driving without a valid license. Greenwich police officers on radar duty on Hamilton Avenue reportedly saw a car driven by Hechevarria driving 47 mph in a 25-mph zone, and attempted to catch up with it. As the police car rounded a curve, officers reported seeing the other car had hit the stone wall along the southern curb line of Ritch Avenue. Hechevarria reportedly fled on foot, and the arresting officer chased after him. After allegedly disregarding police commands, Hechevarria reportedly resisted arrest. Investigators determined the car was stolen out of Stamford the previous night. Unable to post the $50,000 bond, Hechevarria is due in court on Nov. 10.
