As if the heat of competition isn't enough to contend with, environmentalists warn that student-athletes who use the town's synthetic playing fields could potentially be exposed to an invisible threat next time the mercury soars - toxic vapors from the artificial turf.

Study finds high level of mold at Ham Ave modulars
The air in two classrooms at the modular building once used by the Hamilton Avenue School shows active mold growth, according to a report released by the Board of Education.

New Lebanon School sits on one side of town, the International School at Dundee on another. A quarter of the students at New Lebanon School qualify for free or reduced lunches, while 7 percent of Dundee students qualify.

Julian Curtiss School recently held Field Day where the theme was "Take Me Out to the Ball Games." The children were encouraged to wear shirts of their favorite ball sports and to focus on good sportsmanship and teamwork.

With only a street dividing them, two communities are coming together to create a unified vision for their future.

Focus on education
Eastern Middle School students recently conducted a Read For Change project, a read-a-thon to raise money to buy books for children at Timothy Dwight Elementary school in New Haven.
