09/22/11 A Milling And Paving Project On Route 1 Between The NY State Line And Deerfield Drive Will Likely Slow Traffic Over The Next Couple Weeks

It's Going To Be Rough On Route One

The US 1 road project will begin this Sunday and continue through about October 7th.

Work will occur overnight Sundays through Thursdays during between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. DOT workers will post signs along Route 1 to direct drivers.

Weather conditions may affect the completion date of the work.

The project is part of the state's annual resurfacing program, which repaves between 200 and 300 miles of state roadways every year.

Even though work will occur during the nighttime hours and contractors will be out of the way during the day, road conditions will be rougher than normal after the milling, even during daytime hours.

Drivers will encounter exposed manhole covers after the milling.

Drivers with oversized rims on their vehicles need to be especially cautious of exposed, raised surfaces.

These road conditions can quickly flatten tires and destroy rims.
