Three men were injured yesterday when a butane fuel cylinder exploded during an evening event at Tamarack Country Club.
Deputy Fire Marshal John Fronio said two men were taken to Greenwich Hospital and a third man with burns to his face was transported by ambulance to the Burn Center at Westchester Medical Center in New York.
Fronio said the explosion happened during an outside cooking event at the country club where the cylinder — about the size of a spray paint can — was being used for cooking.
Fronio said he collected evidence from the accident and interviewed two of the three injured men that were taken to Greenwich Hospital.
The cause of the blast has not yet been determined and remains under investigation, Fronio said.
Fronio would not disclose the age of the men or the injuries suffered by the two taken to Greenwich Hospital.
He said that it was not the first time that the butane cylinders have exploded in town. Over the past several years Greenwich firefighters have logged three such incidents.
“We would like to see them taken off the market,” Fronio said.
Fronio said that the department will report the accident to the state Department of Consumer Protection.
