E-Updates from the Dan Debicella for Congress Campaign | September 15th, 2010 | |||||
Responding to Himes’ Negative AttacksFriends, Jim Himes has turned to untrue negative attacks on TV and the mail. Jim is desperate to change the topic from his failures on the economy, deficit, and healthcare—so he is trying to portray me as a monster by distorting my record. His latest ad claims that I want to deny emergency contraception to rape victims. Of course, this is a complete lie. I support emergency contraception for all women, especially rape victims. However, I did vote against forcing Catholic Hospitals to dispense Plan B in violation of their beliefs. Every woman should have access to emergency contraception, but I do not support government forcing any religion to violate their faith. We will not let these character attacks go unanswered. In our new ad, my wife Alexandra tells the truth about my position and reminds voters we need real solutions for job creation and deficit reduction. You can see our new ad here. You can help stop Jim Himes’ character assassination. If you hear a friend mention Himes’ ad, make my position clear: 1) Dan supports emergency contraception for all women, especially rape victims. 2) Dan voted against forcing Catholic Hospitals from dispensing it in violation of their beliefs. 3) Jim Himes is exploiting emotional issues to distract voters from our failing economy and soaring deficit. Thanks for your continuing support. We will continue to talk about my solutions for job creation and deficit reduction, and not let Jim Himes take this campaign into the gutter. All my best, --Dan |

Words or Deeds?
Our incumbent congressman, Jim Himes voted to increase discretionary government spending by 22% but now talks about favoring a 1% spending reduction. Himes voted with Nancy Pelosi over 95% of the time. Now, he talks about being “independent”. His evidence is that he votes against her almost 5% of the time on largely symbolic or procedural matters. This might have worked during the bubble era, but our families cannot afford Himes anymore.
Oh Debicella - All you do is lie. It's so disappointing. The bill did not force Catholic hospitals to issue emergency contraception - the bill was a compromise that allowed a 3rd party to come in and provide it at the victim's request. And Debicella does not believe that women should have the right to emergence contraceptives, ESPECIALLY rape victims. When Debicella "defended" his vote on the rape bill he said: "On the rape bill all I voted against was allowing morning-after contraception to be issued to victims." Yes...Jim is totally distorting your record.
