Himes asks for last-minute porkDear friends, Jim Himes does not understand our nation’s dire fiscal situation. According to the Connecticut Mirror, Jim Himes requested over $50 million in earmarks recently. Washington spending is out-of-control, and Jim Himes seems to think it is an all-you-can-eat buffet. On top of voting for a 22% discretionary spending increase and a $1.4 trillion deficit, Himes is now asking for even more pork barrel spending. I have said repeatedly that I will neither seek nor accept earmarks, but will instead work to eliminate our deficit by reducing wasteful spending. I believe that all projects should be funded based upon their merit and importance, not in exchange for political favors. A merit based system like the one I propose would benefit Fairfield County far more than the current wasteful, political approach that Washington has taken year after year. The list of earmarks in Himes’s latest request is not available on his website, but Himes’s past requests have included funds to study the habitat quality of soft-shell clams and funds to rebuild Bridgeport’s Congress Street Bridge, estimated to cost $50 million – despite the fact that the Washington Street Bridge is just a football field away from the proposed new bridge. Voters will have a clear choice in November between Jim Himes, who will rubber-stamp spending increases and earmarks, and my vision for eliminating earmarks and reducing spending to eliminate our deficit. With your help, we can restore fiscal sanity to Washington. A contribution today of $100, $250, or $500 will help us spread the word about Jim Himes and his fiscal irresponsibility. Thank you for your support. We could not be doing this without you. All my best, -Dan
