03/09/10 Greenwich Roundup Recieves Some Advice

Subject: Scanning technique

Thank you for providing P & Z staff reports.

A few simple steps would greatly improve the readability of your service.

1. Take time to xerox pages straight.

2. Do not scan to jpeg format - this is for photos. Use 1-bit Tiff for black and white text at 300 dpi. My most scanner software can output pdf format directly. Crop before saving.

3. Use Adobe Professional to organize, straighten, make text searchable, and publish an optimized binder as a single pdf file.

4. Please take the time to proofread your copy before posting.

5. Dial back the rhetoric, and give just the facts in a more objective tone.

6. I don't mind the editorializing. Just try to keep it separated a little.

Thank You For The Valuable Feedback

Almost All Of Your Points Are Very Valid.

You Are 100% Right That Greenwich Roundup Needs To Be More Readable And Professional If It Is Going To Continue Growing.

For Months This Blog Has Plateaued And Been Stuck In The 1,200 To 2,800 Daily Unique Visitors Range.

This Number Doesn't Count The Hundreds That Read Greenwich Roundup Through News Readers And Social Networking Sites.

However, Both Numbers Would Be Growing Faster If Greenwich Roundup Had A More Professional Appearance.

On Point #1 It Is The P And Z Employees Who Don't Take The Time To Xerox The Pages Straight.

On Point #2. You Are Correct That The Jpeg Format Is For Photos. You Are Also Correct That A The Tiff Format Would Be Perfect For The Black And White Text, But Blogger Only Accepts Jpeg, Gif, Png And Bmp Images.

On Point #3 You Are Correct That Greenwich Roundup Should Just Make A Single Pdf File And Post It With In The Blog Post.

Greenwich Roundup May Start Using A Service That Will Host PDF's And Let Me Show The PDF In The Blog Posts.

On Point #4 It Is True That Greenwich Roundup Needs To Start Taking The Time To Proofread The Copy Before Posting.

This Is The Biggest Single Complaint About Greenwich Roundup.

Greenwich Roundup Is Legally Blind In One Eye And The Right Eye Has Low Vision And Is Crossed. This Causes Numerous Errors.

Things Are Made Worse, Because Greenwich Roundup Can't Type. He Hunts And Pecks With One Finger On The Key Board.

Sometimes It Takes Hours To Create Just One Post And Often An Exhausted Greenwich Roundup Can't Resist Hitting The Publish Button Before All Corrections Are Made.

Greenwich Roundup Can Correct The Blogger Post If He Finds Errors. He Can Also Correct Errors On The Greenwich Topix Message Board.

However, Once He Hits Publish Button There Are Hundreds Of Persons Who Read Greenwich Roundup Through RSS Readers And Social Networking Sights Like Myspace And They Will Only See The Original Post Filled With Errors.

There Have Been Greenwich Roundup Readers Who Have Also Agreed With Your Point #5. Many Greenwich Roundup Readers Want The Facts In A More Objective Tone.

For The Record, There Have Been Many Wealthy Individuals And Corporations, Including Hearst Newspapers That Have Hired High Priced Lawyers To Come After Greenwich Roundup And His Highly Charged Rhetoric.

But In Each And Every Case The Lawyers Backed Down, Because Greenwich Roundup Had The Facts To Backup His Posts.

Around Town Hall And At The Greenwich Board Of Education Greenwich Roundup Is Known As A Freedom Of Information Nut.

Many Of Greenwich Roundup's Sources Are Very Well Healed And Like Hiding Behind The Wacky Rhetoric At Greenwich Roundup.

These Sources Enjoy The Fact That No One In Their Right Mind Would Even Dare To Suggest That They Are Involved In Disclosing Sensitive Information To The Public Via Greenwich Roundup.

Lastly On Point 6 You Are Correct That Greenwich Roundup Should Separated The Editorializing From The P And Z Staff Reports.

The Staff Reports Should Stand On There Own As Public Documents And Any Editorializing Should Be In A Separate Post.

Greenwich Roundup Does Not Editorialize On Government And Non-Profit Press Releases And Therefore Should Also Let The P And Z Staff Reports Stand On Their Own.

It Took Greenwich Roundup A While To Get Access To The P And Z Staff Reports.

Greenwich Roundup Had To Wait For The Town Law Department To Rule That He Could Receive The Same Materials That The Other Town News Outlets Get.

So When Greenwich Roundup Got The P And Z Staff Reports He Was So Excited He Immediately Started Editorializing About Each Report.

Thank You For The Feedback, Greenwich Roundup Will SLOWLY Start Making Some Changes.
