Greenwich Democrat plans to challenge Dodd
The Hour
Democrat Roger Pearson said Monday he's "likely" to challenge embattled Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd in the 2010 primary.
The attorney and former Greenwich first selectman said he will decide within a few months whether to run.
"I'm seriously considering it," he told The Associated Press. "I am likely to do it."
He plans to reach out to state and local party officials as well as voters before deciding.....
Sen. Dodd attempts to re-connect w. CT
WTNH
Middletown (WTNH) - Senator Chris Dodd is attempting to re-connect with Connecticut in almost daily events over the next two weeks.
The Quinnipiac University Poll last week showed the five-term Democrat with the lowest favorability ratings of any incumbent since Governor John Rowland was enmeshed in scandal.
It's a bad time to be Chris Dodd and Dodd said he knows it. But he plans to remind people of what he's done in the past and the stuff he's working on now.
An event at the Middletown Fire house today was designed to highlight Senator Dodd's work on a grant for fire departments. In his speeches he is making it quite clear he has seen the polls......
Greenwich Democrat 'likely' to challenge Dodd
Hartford Courant
....."I want to see what the reaction is," Pearson said. "So far it has been a positive reaction." Dodd is the Senate Banking Committee chairman.
The five-term lawmaker has seen his popularity slip amid the financial meltdown and in the wake of his failed 2008 presidential campaign.
Pearson says he's unhappy with how Dodd has handled the economic crisis and he wants to give Democrats a choice.
Dodd's reliance on fundraising from Wall Street and other financial interests he oversees as chairman of the banking panel is troubling,
Pearson said. "I see politicians of Chris Dodd's ilk continually insinuating themselves on the public scene -- in Dodd's case propped up by the very interests he's supposed to keep an eye on.
To me, that's distasteful." said Pearson. "Dodd has become the poster child for meaningful, underline 'meaningful,' campaign finance reform." ....
The Most Vulnerable Senator Up for Re-Election in 2010?
RealClearPolitics
Veteran Sen. Chris Dodd (D) should not be vulnerable in his home state of Connecticut. As a longtime officeholder in a reliably Democratic state and the chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, Dodd should have the stature, political base and access to resources to dissuade even the most ambitious of Republicans from challenging him for re-election.
But the darkening cloud that is growing over the Senator's head has changed Dodd's prospects quickly, and the signs already are clear that he'll have the fight of his life next year when he seeks his sixth consecutive term in the Senate.
Coverage of Dodd's special treatment from lender Countrywide Financial - and his designation as a "friend of Angelo" - has blanketed local media, severely damaging Dodd's standing in a state where Democrats hold better than 2-1 majorities in both chambers of the state Legislature, hold all of the Congressional seats and haven't lost a U.S. Senate race since 1986.
Only one Republican, Lowell Weicker, has won a Senate race in the Constitution State since Prescott Bush did so in 1956. (Bush defeated Democrat Thomas Dodd, the current Senator's father.)
Chris Dodd has had no serious tests since he coasted to victory in an open-seat House race in the very Democratic year of 1974. Dodd's closest race since then was his first bid for Senate, in 1980, which he won by "only" 13 points over former New York Sen. Jim Buckley (R). Buckley had lost re-election in the Empire State in 1976 and figured that he might as well run for the Senate in neighboring Connecticut......

BofA, Morgan in adviser battle
Norwalk Advocate
Bank of America won a temporary restraining order this week preventing four former investment advisers from contacting clients.
In the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, Bank of America claims three New Yorkers -- John Pasacreta, John Rotando and Jordan Samuelson -- and Wilton resident Jeremy Donefer violated employment contracts after quitting Banc of America Investment Services Inc. and going to work for Morgan Stanley & Co. Inc. The New Yorkers are working in Morgan's Purchase, N.Y., office. Donefer is working in Morgan's Greenwich office.
The court clerk in White Plains, N.Y., confirmed on Friday a temporary order was issued.
Shirley Norton, a Bank of America spokeswoman, said Friday the bank filed "a complaint against four former associates for egregious breaches of contractual and fiduciary obligations to BAI following their carefully orchestrated resignations from the company to join Morgan Stanley, a direct competitor. . . .

JEREMY DONEFE'S CLIENTS JUST MIGHT WANT TO GET A PEN AND WRITE THESE INSTRUCTIONS DOWN: Immediately Contact Banc America In Greenwich And Demand That Their Account Numbers And Passwords Are Changed, Before Their Accounts Are Liquidated And Transferred To Some Nigerian Bank.
Any Greenwich Banc Of America Client That Did Switch To The Greenwich Morgan Stanley Office Should Cancel And Reverse The Transfer, Because Their New Morgan Stanley Account Number May Also Be On Jeremy Donefe's Home Computer Under "Cake Recipes".
YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP: Greenwich Banc of America's Office reports that a month before resigning, Wilton resident Jeremy Donefer e-mailed Greenwich residents account information from his work computer to his home computer. His first attempt - with "Hi Momma" in the subject line - failed, according to the papers. But he succeeded emailing Greenwich account details in a second attempt with the words "Cake Recipes" in the subject line, the company said. Apparently,

Turner urges US to get into the game
Stamford Advocate
By Colin Gustafson
GREENWICH -- If the history of mankind were a baseball game, Cable News Network founder Ted Turner believes humanity has fallen two runs behind in the seventh inning.
The only way to win: End global warming, nuclear proliferation and overpopulation, he said.
"The game's not over. We still could win, but we're going to have to stop doing the dumb things and start doing the smart things," Turner said Monday at a Greenwich Library presentation.
"We've gotta hold 'em for the next two innings, and put three runs on the board -- and we've got to start right away."
That was one of the many pearls of folksy insight the 70-year-old philanthropist and media mogul sprinkled over a crowd of more than 100 during his talk, "The UN and Our Common Future," on Monday at the Cole Auditorium......
