12/25/08 Former Greenwich Resident And Barber Lucius S. Tyner Has Passed Away


GREENSBORO — Lucius S. Tyner departed this life on Saturday, December 20, 2008, after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Friday, December 27, at Providence Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Bethany United Church of Christ, Sedalia.

Lucius was born January 21, 1924, in Belews Creek, North Carolina, to the late Jessie James Tyner and Nettie Warren Tyner.

After attending the public schools of Guilford County and serving his term of duty in the U.S. Army, he made his residence in Greenwich, Connecticut for 47 years.

Lucius was married to his best friend and loving wife of 61 years, Clara M. Tyner. They formed a special bond that will never be broken.

While living in Connecticut, he owned and operated Tyner's Barber Shop located in Port Chester, New York for 37 years.

As a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwich, Connecticut, he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees. This was an honor in which he was most proud.

Upon his retirement, he moved his family to Greensboro, North Carolina and joined Bethany United Church of Christ. Later on, he moved his membership to Providence Baptist Church.

His favorite pastimes were fishing, bowling, gardening, and refinishing furniture.

His love and care for them will be remembered and cherished forever by his loving wife, Clara; sons, Phillip Tyner of Bellvue, Nebraska, Michael Tyner (Linda) of Greensboro, North Carolina; a daughter, Janet Tyner Booker (Michael) of Stamford, Connecticut; grandchildren, Tracy Padilla of Bellvue, Nebraska, Tamara Spencer (Tirik), of Greensboro, North Carolina, Rebekkah Schwerdtfeger of Pella, Iowa, and Nathasa Marie Tyner of Hamden, Connecticut; and a host of adoring great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
