With only two home meets on the schedule, runners on the Greenwich High School boys and girls cross country teams don't get many chances to race on a familiar course and in front of some familiar faces.

Jerry Porricelli's fight for Greenwich residency might have ended up one great man vs. system story but, after seven years, it's over.

To the editor:

I have been a Greenwich resident for the past 30 years, and as you can imagine have seen lots of changes here. Many of those, sad to say, are appalling - from the clear-cutting of the natural landscape to the sometimes illegal excavation of some of the wetlands. All in all, though, I have remained silent.

That is, of course, till this situation with the turkey at Tod's Point, and by that I mean the animal, not the woman who is complaining about it.

Many of us have grown to really care for this animal, and find her quite amusing. She is friendly, and those so-called pecks at people are just that. They're harmless little playful nibs.

It's a game for her, and I played like that with her for awhile till she got tired and went about her business. The only real aggression I would say was from some of the children, and adults, for that matter, whom I have seen throwing sand at her. What do you expect from the animal when you treat her like that?

We humans are not the only species on this planet. Let me remind everyone of that. Just because an animal may be inconvenient does not give anyone any right to have it removed. That turkey has just as much a right to live there and play as any of us do; that is her home.

The only crime that turkey has committed was to come to trust the people there and be friendly. Just think of her as a young child wanting attention. Would you remove a child from his or her home for acting the same way, or throw sand?

Stop the paranoia and nonsense. There is not much beauty left in the world. Lets not turn Tod's into something ugly. That land and its wildlife has been abused enough already!
