Center set for gardeners' market
Lisa Beebe, director of horticulture at the Garden Education Center is preparing for the 47th annual May Gardeners' Market on May 3.
How did you first get involved here?
Actually, I worked at a nonprofit in New Canaan when I first moved here from Massachusetts. Taught a bit and ran a greenhouse at the New Canaan Nature Center. And it was a similar piece of property with trails, but they did a lot of children's programs. And I am more of an adult education teacher, so when the gal that worked here left, I was approached by some of the board members about whether I knew anybody. I thought well actuallyÉ so I took the position here.
What do you love about working with plants and flowers?
Well, every spring it's like new life. Last year, we put a wildflower trail on the Pinetum to celebrate the 50th anniversaryÉSo I went out to see what was coming up and it was so rewarding to see all those things starting to come up and bloom and you know spring is on its way.
What are popular plants for gardening right now?
