Greenwich Mother Wins $638K in Sadomasochism Case Involving Her Disabled Daughter

A Greenwich woman has won nearly $638,000 in damages from a Greenwich man she claimed had a sadomasochistic sexual relationship with her disabled and mentally ill daughter. The jury returned the verdict Thursday in favor of Mary Kortner, who claimed her daughter, Caroline Kendall Kortner, was unable to consent to an abusive sexual relationship with Craig Martise, a married father of four, because of her mental state, according to NBC Connecticut.

Greenwich Commuters' Trains Would Have Cameras Monitoring Tracks, Wayside Areas, Cabs

Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road today won approval from a committee of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board to award contracts totaling $34.6 million for the purchase of inward- and outward-facing cameras in the cabs of their rail fleets. The outward-facing cameras will be used to record track and wayside activities, and the inward-facing cameras will be used to record the engineer's control area while the train is in operation.

A Connecticut jury has awarded about $638,000 to a woman who sued a man she said had a sadomasochistic sexual relationship with her mentally ill and disabled daughter. The Stamford Superior Court jury returned the verdict Thursday in favor of Mary Kortner, who said her daughter, Caroline Kendall Kortner, couldn't have consented to an abusive sexual relationship with Greenwich resident Craig Martise because of her mental state.

Stamford Man Faces Child Pornography Charges

A 34-year-old Stamford man is facing child pornography charges following a Stamford Police investigation into the importation of child pornography at a Greenwich Avenue residence. According to a police statement, the department's Digital Forensics Unit and the State's Attorney's Office in Stamford began the joint investigation in August "when the Digital Forensics Unit received information that child pornography was being imported to and investigators determined that there were numerous images of child pornography being downloaded through the modem" at the residence.

Larceny, Trespass Charges Filed Against Man Accused of Stealing Construction Tools

A man is facing third-degree larceny and third-degree criminal trespass charges in connection with the theft of $5,000 worth of construction tools earlier this year. According to a Greenwich Police report, the tools were stolen from a work van at a construction site on Andrews Road on April 30. Police were notified of the theft when Benjamin Gottlieb, 23, of 6 Bishop Park Rd., Pound Ridge, NY, was stopped by Stamford Police on May 1. He was arrested for possession of heroin by Stamford Police who searched his vehicle and "found a large assortment of construction tools," according to the report.

Video: Nearly 400 Chestnut Trees Planted in Greenwich

A native tree that has been on the verge of extinction throughout eastern American forests for over a century will be the first in Fairfield County to grow in a special preserve in Greenwich. The Greenwich Land Trust joined 50 volunteers at the Duck Pond Hill Preserve along Burning Tree Road to plant nearly 400 American Chestnut Tree seedlings from Virginia at its new acre and a half American Chestnut Tree Sanctuary.

Stamford Police Seek Help Finding Driver In Double-Fatal Car Crash

Stamford police are looking for a woman who they say was the driver of the car that slammed into another car last week that resulted in the deaths of two people. A $500 reward has been offered for information on or the location of Felicia Burl, 32. Police said she was the driver who fled the scene of a double fatal motor vehicle crash on West Main Street in Stamford near the Greenwich line at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7. In the accident, a 2002 Nissan Altima traveling south on Alvord Lane ran a red light at West Main Street and struck a westbound BMW, police said.
