Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Daniel Bonventre, the ex-director of operations for Bernard Madoff Investment Securities LLC, was arrested by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of its investigation of fraud at the defunct firm.

Bonventre, 63, was arrested this morning at his home in Manhattan and is scheduled to appear in federal court later today, according to James Margolin, a spokesman for the FBI.

Madoff, 71, is serving a 150-year prison term after pleading guilty last year to the largest Ponzi scheme. New York- based Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC is being liquidated by the Securities Investor Protection Corp.

Yusill Scribner, a spokeswoman for Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, didn’t immediately return a voicemail message seeking comment.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A former director of operations for imprisoned Ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff's investment firm has been arrested, the FBI said on Thursday.

Daniel Bonventre, 63, was arrested at his Manhattan residence, and is scheduled to appear later Thursday in Manhattan federal court, the agency said.

No further details were immediately available. A spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in New York declined to comment.

Bonventre would be the sixth person to face criminal charges over the December 2008 collapse of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC.

The firm was a base for a decades-long swindle that investigators have estimated at $65 billion.
Madoff pleaded guilty last March, and is now serving a 150-year sentence at a North Carolina federal prison.

02/24/10 Linda McMahon's Supporters Are Having Trouble Getting Tickets To Her Hartford Debate. Can Some One Help This High Schooler Out?

CT High School Student Wants To Get Involved In Greenwich Resident Linda McMahon's Election Battle

Hello, my name is Brian Fritz I am a student at Simsbury High School.

I was reading the letter sent out by Linda McMahon's Field Director Matt Laconte asking for supporters to show up at next tuesday's senate debate. I have tried calling the University of Hartford Box Office and found that all tickets were gone.

Is there still need for support and are there any seats left?

I have spoken with people such as Sean McCoy and Keven Kulunain (spelling is most likely wrong) to try to find out ways that I can help out McMahon's campaign.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do and if there are any tickets left to come support her.

Thank you very much,

Brian Fritz

02/23/10 Wheres The Greenwich Time? The Greenwich Post Breaking News - The Greenwich Police Department Det. Mark Marino Is Investigating GEMA

Breaking News

Union members call for criminal probe of GMEA finances

Members of the Greenwich Municipal Employees Association (GMEA) are looking to open a criminal probe, claiming that their president might have been misusing funds.

A member of the GMEA has been in contact with the State’s Attorney’s Office and with the Greenwich Police Department. Det. Mark Marino of the Greenwich police is expected to make contact with the union members within the next few days to investigate their claims. Should they be warranted, the investigation could then be turned over to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

.....union members who completed their examination of the union’s books this month and claim that GMEA President Rosalie Mastropaolo has misused union funds.

GMEA member Melissa Evans, who is among those who examined the GMEA’s financial records after the Connecticut Board of Labor Relations mandated they be released, met with the Post on Tuesday. She said the financial mismanagement goes beyond initial allegations of union funds being used for concert tickets and meals......

.....GMEA held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday afternoon. The Post attempted to attend to hear the board’s side of the accusations, but was ejected from the meeting at Ms. Mastropaolo’s request. Ms. Mastropaolo refused comment for the story.

For the full story, see this week's issue of the Greenwich Post.

Comments (3)

mel1972 says....

Why no comment from Mastropaolo? One would think that if she were truly ionnocent of any wrong-doing she would have something to say.

Candy79 says .....

Combative, Unrependent, full of a sense of their own power. That is the impression that comes across from the majority of the GMEA Executive Board. "Mistakes Were Made" that is the talking point used most by GMEA Board members. Let's just put this behind us and move on. That's what every thief saids once they have been caught. I didn't know I was doing something wrong. They have hundreds of people incarerated right now that are saying that as they wait for an appeal. They could at least fake being sorry about spending the Union's money on frivolous items. It leaves a nasty taste in my mouth, because GMEA's Executive Board sound just like lying politicians when they are caught out..so sad.

Greenwich Girl says .....

This is such disgusting. The Board of GMEA has such a sense of entitlement and they are living in a fantasy world. "Mistakes were made, Lets move on?" I am no lawyer, but if these accusations are true, they have committed Grand Larceny. They have stolen dues from hard working individuals that they are supposed to represent, who have not had a raise in over a year. The Board has committed the sin of gluttony by going to fancy dinners, concerts, trips to Vegas, etc. Did they not think that they would have to pay for their actions? The GMEA board disgusts me, and so do the people that continue to believe the lies that they spew, because they allow this behavior to continue.

02/23/10 Hearst Newspaper Editor David McCumber Jumps On Frank MacEachern Butt After He Gets Grilled At The Retired Mens Association Meeting Last Week

Two Thumbs Up For Hearst Newspaper Editor David McCumber !!!!
Last Week There Were Several Comments, During And After The Retired Men's Association Meeting To Hearst Newspaper Editor David McCumber

Many RMA Members Were Complaining That Greenwich Time Reporters Did Not Inform Residents What Was On The Agenda At Up Coming Town Meetings.

Mr. Mcumber Agreed With The Retired Men's Association Members And Promised To Fix This Oversight At The Greenwich Time.

Now Today We Have Greenwich Time Reporter Frank MacEachern Telling Us What Is On The Agenda At The Planning And Zoning Commission.

Please See:

Zoning commission considers zoning amendments
By Frank MacEachern, Staff Writer

A Cos Cob resident who also chairs the Representative Town Meeting's land use committee is welcoming proposed zoning changes that could control the spread of banks in town.

"I am very pleased that they are proposing new regulations to control the number of banks," said
Peter Berg....

.....The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Tuesday night and hold a public hearing on many proposed changes to the town's building zone regulations....

....The commission is also looking at other changes including preventing an existing drive-through, like a bank, to be automatically converted to a drive-through for a fast food restaurant.

Other changes include tightening up office use in business zones to ensure retail businesses are on the first floor to maintain continuity of store frontages. The commission is considering a change that would exclude real estate, insurance, employment or travel firms from locating on the first floor of buildings in the neighborhood Local Business Retail zone or the central Greenwich Business zone.

The prohibited businesses do not rely on customers to come in to their offices, according to the note accompanying the amended regulation...

....The commission is also considering amendments in the R-6 (two-family property) zone to ensure development of new or renovating existing housing doesn't affect drainage, parking and open space.

The hearing on the proposed zoning regulation changes is only part of a busy agenda with a number of high-profile applications.....
