Alan Houston, a long Greenwich resident has developed a program geared toward helping men become better fathers to their children.

The former Olympic athlete and University of Tennesse basketball player was at the Norwalk YMCA on Saturday afternoon overseeing his program while working with father's and their kids.

Mr. Houston had was a special relationship with his father. Wade Houston coached Allan at the University of Tennessee, and his father was always there to guide him and give him good advice. They've teamed up to develop a program that focuses on Faith, Integrity, Sacrifice, Leadership, and Legacy.

The two-hour session at the Norwalk YMCA included relationship-building opportunities for fathers or father-figures and their middle-school age boys and girls. Houston has incorporated some of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. into his program.

This is the second year Houston has implemented his program at the Norwalk YMCA and the reception and reaction has been all positive.

Two thumbs up, to Mr. Houston for passing his experiences down to the next generation and for helping fathers invest in their children in a positive way.

Children Are Truly A Gift From God

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
        (Psalms 127:3-5 ESV)

And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
        (Matthew 18:2-6 ESV)
