About Naked Soul: Naked Soul is one of the most unique concert series in NYC as it is all acoustic and unplugged - no mics or amps (Naked). The Rubin Museum is the only museum in North America whose collection is dedicated to artwork of the Himalayas (Soul). Their intimate theater only seats 137 and has perfect acoustics. Slides of any pieces of art that speaks to the artist's music are shown behind the artist during the appropriate songs at the performance. The artist's are encouraged to make connections between the artwork and their music. After the show, the audience is given a free tour of the museum. Time Out NY calls Naked Soul an "innovative" and "cool" series. Tickets available at http://www.rmanyc.org/nakedsoul or by calling the museum M-F 11am-5pm at 212-620-5000 ext 344
About Rob Mathes and Orchestral Songs: Rob Mathes has produced music for people as far flung as Carly Simon and Panic At The Disco and arranged music for artists as wide ranging as Lou Reed, Jay Z, and Renee Fleming and Beyonce, Elton John and Yo Yo Ma. Bonnie Raitt and Aaron Neville have recorded his songs but all of this activity exists to support his work as an artist. In a rare appearance for the Naked Soul series, Rob brings together a string quartet of some of New York's finest musicians led by Max Mendel on Viola and Master Percussionist Ben Wittman (Paul Simon, Laurie Anderson, Jonatha Brooke, Paula Cole) to perform music from his record Orchestral Songs, recorded in 2007 with members of the London Symphony at Abbey Road Studios in London. A searing record of sophisticated yet Pop-oriented settings of Poetry by W.C. Williams, Yeats and others, be prepared for an evening of romantic music, songs that suggest the music of Joni Mitchell or Nick Drake on one hand and the music of Benjamin Britten on the other.

Note from Rob Mathes
This is going to be one of the most special events of the past few years for me. I am playing some of the songs off Orchestral Songs, other brand new works, and music off of Evening Train. Joining me are the amazing Percussionist Ben Wittman and a String Quartet featuring Max Mendel and members of Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. It will be an evening of very special music I believe, stuff I have not played live before.
The Naked Soul series at the Rubin is completely unique. Rosanne Cash, Jonatha Brooke, Shawn Colvin, Paula Cole and many others have been a part of it over the past few years. What makes it special are two things:
1. NO AMPLIFICATION---You hear completely acoustic performances in a beautiful acoustic space. The hall only fits 137 people and it becomes an incredibly intimate and artful experience.
2. THE RUBIN'S COLLECTION OF HIMALAYAN ART--Each artist has a tour of the museum where he/she picks works that mirror the themes within that artiist's music and these images are projected behind the performance at particular times. The art collection is phenomenal.
Hope you can join me there. Rob
