Neglected inspections of buildings, haphazard filing of fire reports and stalled projects prompted First Selectman Jim Lash to call for the dismissal of Fire Marshal Joseph Benoit, Lash testified yesterday. After wrangling with Benoit since early 2004 to create a plan to address the shortcomings of the Fire Marshal's Division with little measurable progress, Lash decided to terminate the longtime town employee this summer, Lash said.
